In the eyes of the worldly, to add to one's years
Is a matter for sadness and sighing and tears.
They dislike the reminder they're now growing old,
And they like it still less should it be that they're told!
For they think to grow old is a step to decay
And they try all they can this dread hour to delay.
But let those who have faith take the Bible and see
What is said on the subject in Psalm Eighty-three.
Then how differently viewed is the passing of years,
Life is seen as a trek through a valley of tears.
As the body is weakened, the spirit grows strong,
And with joy in the heart, one now hastens along!
And one's strength grows apace with the hope in the soul
that at last one is nearing the long-desired goal -
To behold God himself, as he is, face to face.
then who at this juncture would slacken his pace?
With a song in our hearts through this valley we go
With the happy assurance that life here below,
Like a pilgrimage, one day will come to its end
With the vision of God - our life's goal attained!
