Bowburn Juniors

Bowburn Junior School is a two-form entry school in an ex-mining village on the outskirts of County Durham. The village is currently undergoing significant regeneration, with a great deal of new executive housing being built. Bowburn is just off the A1M, making the village an ideal base for commuting to work.

The school is highly successful and has gained many awards. These include the Basic Skills ‘Quality Mark’, School Improvement Awards, Investors in People and International Accreditation.

International Awareness is a strong feature of the school, and we have had several exciting projects with schools in Finland, France , Germany, Bosnia and USA. These projects have involved children in all countries developing creative arts, using ceramics and quilt-making, video projects and creating a ‘Millennium Eurogarden’. Our next project is to collaborate with schools in France, Spain and Romania to create a joint, multi-national website.

The school has a high reputation for extra-curricular activities, including Fencing, Music, a range of sports and Study Support. We try hard to cater for the interests of all pupils, and our outdoor environment is a testament to this. We have superb grounds, with playing fields, a Fun Trail, designed by the children working with staff, and an ‘Oasis’, featuring Astroturf, pergolas and picnic benches. Our ‘Eurogarden’ is a secret garden surrounded by willows, with seats carved into the shapes of leaves and seeds – a perfect story-telling garden and a place to escape from the rigours of the football pitch.

Bowburn Junior School is a place that children and staff are very proud of. We are particularly proud of Ofsted’s observation that ‘relationships are excellent at Bowburn Junior School’.

We hope you enjoy browsing our website, it will give you a small insight into the life our happy and productive school at:

Bowburn Junior School – ‘The quality school that cares’.
