County Durham Association of Local Councils

Welcome to the County Durham Association of Local Councils website. Through these pages the Association aims to provide it's members and the public with as much information as possible about the Association and its activities.

The County Durham Association of Local Councils represents the interests of 23 Parish Meetings and 109 Parish and Town Councils in the County of Durham, the metropolitan districts of Sunderland and Gateshead and the Darlington Borough Council areas.

There are currently 100 parish councils in membership of the Association which represents almost 92% of local councils.

In addition there are three parish meetings in membership of the Association.

The Association aims to provide a quality service to member councils including legal financial, procedural and planning advice.

Training for the Association is provided by the County Durham and Cleveland County Training Partnership (CTP).The CTP is a partnership arrangement between the two Rural Community Councils in the area durham and Tees Valley, the County Council, the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC) and the two County Associations of Cleveland and County Durham.

The County Durham Association of Local Councils provides the administrative support for the CTP.

The President of the Association is Mrs Helen Goodman M.P. The Association is controlled by an Executive Committee which has three Vice Presidents, one Honorary Treasurer and one Honorary Auditor elected at the AGM. One representative is also appointed to the Executive Committee from each of the thirteen CDALC sub committees based on groupings of parish councils at Area Action Partnership level.

We also have three members of a kindred spirit and two non voting members representing larger local councils from County Durham.
