Pelton School

The original Pelton School was opened on 19th April, 1909 by Alderman W. Allison and commemorated its 90th anniversary with celebrations in 1999 .
At the time of writing, the Senior School and its gymnasium, together with the Junior and Infants Schools have now all been demolished and these areas levelled.
In February 2004, actor Tim Healey (star of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet) together with pupils from Pelton Community Primary School, cut the first sod to commence the building work for the new Pelton School. Built on the space previously occupied by the playing fields, the new school was opened in April 2006, and is undoubtedly an impressive replacement. However, for former pupils and staff there will be many memories to recall, but also there will be a degree of sadness now that the old school has been demolished.
For those who would like to rekindle memories of the place where our futures were fashioned, a new book about the school has been written by local author Dorothy Rand with photographs from George Nairn. The book is now on sale locally priced £5, with all profits going straight to the School's funds.
