CLASPER FAMILY HISTORY

I first began researching my family tree in 1996 after it had dawned on me that my dad was the last remaining family member of his generation, and once he passed away there would be no one left to answer some important questions about my relatives.
As often happens with older family members he wasn't particularly interested in 'digging-up' the past, but over a period of time it was possible to get him to talk and I was able to get some useful information.
As my tree progressed I used the Family History magazines and the internet to advertise my surname interests and to make contact with other people researching the same names.
At the same time many hours were spent in the local history department of the library transcribing all the Clasper entries in the St. Catherine's Index. These records were then input into the computer database program I was using (Custodian) so that they could be stored and searched. All reports and trees were produced on Family Tree Maker, but the free internet program GenPage will be used in my web pages.
Through the internet, contacts were made with other researchers who were very helpful in supplying and exchanging what they knew or had obtained through their own research. Contact was made with branches of the family in England, Scotland, the United States, Canada and Australia. Special mention has to be made for the help received from Rod Clayburn, Tracey Clasper, Karl W Clasper, Kris Jacobs, George Clasper & Mairi Frew in the U.K. & Julie Clasper, Sandra Johnson & Elizabeth Brook in Australia, and Linda A Nordby in Canada, as well as all the others who have exchanged information with me.
Tracing the family tree has been an absorbing and very interesting pastime and it will continue to be so for some years yet. It has given me a greater insight into local history and a better understanding of how our ancestors lived and worked. The many trees I have put together still need connecting up to each other and this is now the main task in hand, to produce one big 'Clasper' Family Tree.
