The perfect venue
Sir William Turner’s Almshouses are a Grade-1 Historic Listed Building. Built in 1676, the elegant baroque Chapel at the centre of the building is the venue for these prestigious concerts.
Seating an audience of only 100, the Chapel provides a perfect and intimate atmosphere with superb acoustics. Only about 12 metres square, no one in the audience is more than a dozen paces from the performers. Artists frequently comment on the warmth of the rapport that is established between audience and artist.
"The quality of the artists and the variety of the programmes makes Kirkleatham the Wigmore Hall of of the North," reported one newspaper critic.
"The Chapel at Kirkleatham is surely one of the best kept musical secrets in the North-east," said one regular patron.
Location: The Almshouses are located within a few hundred yards of the roundabout at the junction of the A174 and the A1042 (Kirkleatham Lane). The domed clock tower is clearly visible from all approaches.
The ideal venue: The Chapel, Common Room and grounds of Sir William Turner's Almshouses are ideal venues for a wide range of events. Click on the link below for full details of the facilities at Sir William Turner's Almshouses and to visit our main website.
