A church in the heart of the community

The Village Church.
For some this well maintained and much loved building, in the heart of the old part of Cleadon Village, is at the heart of local peoples’ lives. They marry here, their children are baptised here and their loved ones are committed into the hands of their Maker here. They worship here at Christmas, on Mothering Sunday, at Easter, Harvest and on Remembrance Sunday.
The sick are prayed for, the housebound visited, the hungry are fed, the little children learn about Jesus and an army of good Christian people make it all happen.

Church Government.
Local Anglican churches are led by a ‘Vicar’ or ‘Rector’, appointed by the Diocesan Bishop in consultation with the Patron of the church and the Church Wardens. The incumbent Vicar of Cleadon has the freehold of the parish and is responsible for the whole ministry and mission of the parish church.

The Vicar or Rector will always be a priest who will bring to the local church a rich experience of the wider church. He or she will have undergone extensive training and will have particular gifts to bring to a church. Almost all priests have previously worked in other professions. They are on their second career!

The Parochial Church Council (PCC) is a group, whose members are elected annually, to work with the Vicar in the service of the local church and community. This group shares with the Vicar, responsibility for parish policy in matters of ministry and mission.
· After a period of consultation we agreed that baptised children may receive communion before confirmation. This is in line with growing international practice.
· All Saints' Cleadon currently has a number of people working in various groups to effect PCC policy. All these informal and open groups are accountable to the Vicar and PCC for their conduct and practice.
