The Cross Keys Leek Club has had a fine history, going back nearly fifty years - please visit the Archive section on this site. Lest we forget, the Cross Keys Leek Club produced a World Champion – Graham Hunt.
The inaugural meeting of the reformed Leek Club was held on 13th October 2008 and was a great success. It was well attended by both experienced growers and novices who wanted to learn the art of growing and exhibiting leeks, vegetables and flowers.
A very short set of rules was agreed by all as it is the aim of the club to be as informal as possible
A modest subscription fee was agreed and all of these fees will be used to exclusively fund the prizes in the club's annual shows which take place in September each year in the Scout Hut. Both the 2009 and 2010 were each a great success.
The club meets on the first Tuesday of each month in the lounge of the Cross Keys courtesy of the landlord Ian Ross to whom we are most indebted.
Membership for the 2011-2012 season is now open to residents of Gainford and surrounding villages, so anyone interested in growing is encouraged to fill in an application form from behind the bar in the Cross Keys, or contact John Challen (Secretary) on 01325 730778 or Brian Jackson (Treasurer) on 01325 730062, or any member for more details. We can guarantee that you will be made welcome.
