Gainford Man takes 4 Show Trophies

Extract from D & S Times September 1987

At the Cross Keys Leek Show held recently in Gainford, Mr Graham Hunt won 4 of the seven trophies. Judge was Mr John Hindmarch.
Mr Hunt won trophies for the pot leeks, trench leeks, most points in the vegetable section, and most points in the show.
S Nesbitt received the trophy for best leek. Most improved grower was Derek I'Anson, and most points for flowers was won by Alan Allison.

Derek I'Anson Is Show Champion

Champion of the Cross Keys Leek Show at Gainford was Derek I'Anson. Best leek in Show belonged to Chris Allison, who also gained most points.
Trench leek champion was Stewart Newton, who was also awarded most points in the flower section.
Most points in the vegetable section were gained by Harry Pickles.
Most improved grower of the year was none other that the champion Derek I'Anson.
Produce was auctioned for charity by Mr Frank Coop.

Stewart Newton won the Leek Championship at the annual show at the Cross Keys, Gainford, on Saturday.
He also took the prize for long leeks and most flower points.
John Challen had the best leek in the show, as well as most points in the vegetable section and the highest total points overall. He was named as the most improved leek grower.
