Henderson Community House
As part of our efforts to improve facilities for the local community, Chilton West Residents Association have obtained from Sedgefield Borough Council a pair of difficult to let Council Houses to use as a "Community House". The house will be used as a meeting place for the Residents Association, an information point for benefits, health information etc., a contact point for various agencies and a drop-in centre for young mothers etc.
The House has been refurbished and has been named Henderson Community House after our late Vice-Chair. It is a Company Limited by Guarantee and a registered Charity. At present we run a children's clothing shop selling new and quality used children's clothing. This opens every Tuesday afternoon between 1pm and 3pm. We operate a branch of South West Durham Credit Union every Monday morning 10 -12. Cruse Bereavement Care have taken up an offer to use the premises for counselling and Bishop Auckland College are using the premises to provide drop in advice for those wanting to return to work or obtain education advice. Sedgefield Borough Council Housing Department are planning to offer drop in advice sessions for residents with any queries regarding housing problems. Invitations are welcome from any organisation wishing to use the premises.
Henderson House is situated at 13/15 Coleridge Road, Chilton, Co Durham, DL17 0HS.
We have obtained funding from various funding agencies and would welcome any offers of funding in cash or kind to help with the setting up of this exciting and much needed project.
