Welcome to SureStart
 | SureStart is a Government programme which aims to improve health, education and emotional development for young children and support parents to develop skills. It was established in 2000 to enhance services for children and families in Ferryhill, Ferryhill Station, Chilton and including the East Howle Traveller Site.
The SureStart Centre at Dean Bank, Ferryhill, in conjunction with Dean Bank Primary School, has recently been designated a Children’s Centre.
There should be no noticeable change in the services that we currently offer which include ante-natal support, activities that encourage child development and training opportunities for adults.
SureStart will continue to offer activities and support from all three centres at Dean Bank, Ferryhill Station and Chilton and outreach to East Howle.
In the near future we are expected to deliver services within other Children’s Centres across Sedgefield. This will require us to review our existing services and provide opportunities to develop some new ones. We will continue to work with our partner organisations to ensure that there are services available that meet the community’s needs. Any changes that may take place will be discussed at our Partnership Groups which includes representation from our parents and partner organisations.
Children and families in Chilton can continue to access activities and services at Chilton SureStart Centre as part of the local programme until Chilton Primary School becomes a Children’s Centre in its own right.
As part of the development at Dean Bank, we now offer full daycare places for children 0 – 4 and this will also be available at Dean Bank School from September.

Jabadao
Jabadao is part of The Thriving Child Research Project that is looking at the importance of early movement play in children’s development.
The sessions encourage child-led free-flow movement play with parents and carers playing a supporting role. The activity focuses on movements such as crawling, rolling, bouncing and spinning which have been shown to have special significance for brain development and future learning.
The sessions are on Wednesday mornings:
Magic-Movers
18 months – 4 years
9.30am – 10.30am
Mini-Movers
0 – 18 months
10.30am – 11.30am
No need to book . . .
just turn up and have a chat with Hayley
