Darlington Vehicle Watch 25 Scheme
What is the 25 Scheme?
Records suggest that 90% of vehicle theft is committed by persons aged under 25 years, whilst 70% of victims are aged over 25 years. The 25 scheme is designed to reduce the theft of vehicles, particularly by young offenders,
Can I take part in the scheme?
Yes, if you own a vehicle which is regularly driven in the Darlington area. All potential drivers of this vehicle should be aged over 25 years.
How does it work?
You will be provided with 2 stickers which should be displayed inside the front and rear windscreens of your vehicle (taking care not to obscure the view of the driver). These stickers are an indication that the vehicle should only be driven by persons who are over the age of 25 years.
Will my vehicle be stopped by the police?
Vehicle owners who display the 25 Scheme sticker, do so on the understanding that the vehicle is normally driven by persons over the age of 25 years. Persons using the vehicle who appear to be under that age could be challenged by police and should carry a suitable means of identification.
Will this scheme cost me anything?
No, 25 scheme stickers can be obtained from the Neighbourhood Watch Liaison Office free of charge.
