What is Crime Ring?
What is Crime Ring?
This is the main method of communication used to pass information to Neighbourhood Watch, Home Watch, Tell 2 and Rural Watch schemes. It is a computerised messaging system based in the Community Safety Office of Darlington Police at Central House Annex, Gladstone Street, Darlington. The system broadcasts spoken messages to registered Crime Ring contacts via their own telephone.
How do I become involved?
Completion of an authorisation form gives the Community Safety office permission to store your details on the Crime Ring computer, your information will not be used for any purpose other than Neighbourhood Watch and the Crime Ring system.
When Will I recieve messages?
You can choose to recieve the messages at a time that suits you, also if you are not at home to answer a call, the computer will continue to try your phone number on four more occasions leaving at least two hours in between.
Where does the information come from?
The information comes from the local Police. The messages sent will not relate to an isolated incident as this would be too costly. You will be contacted if there is a pattern of crime forming in your area or if there is information regarding ongoing situations, i.e. bogus offcials or a suspicious vehicle.
What do I do when I recieve a message?
Once a message has been recieved we would expect it to be passed on to about six neighbours, who may then pass the message further, this does of course vary depending on the requirements of your area. Passing the message can take whatever method suits your area best, such as writing out the message and posting it through doors or by word of mouth.
Will this scheme cost me anything?
Receiving information via Crime Ring is FREE, all that you will need to take part is a telephone.
