DURHAM FOLK PARTY

Durham Folk Party takes place on the last full weekend of July each year. It is a celebration of folk song, music and dance which began in 1990 after the demise of the excellent Durham City Folk Festival and has developed into an important part of the music year of the city. Camping is at the recently re-built Durham Amateur Rowing Club which is along Green Lane at the top of Old Elvet in Durham and which has showers and toilets. The rowing club and pubs such as the Dun Cow, and the Shakespeare are the venues for song and music while the Market Place is the setting for the famous massed dance displays. The Town Hall is the venue for the Saturday night ceilidh which this year features the Summerhill Folly Ceilidh Band from Newcastle.
All in all, Durham Folk Party is a 'right old song and dance'
The folk party has strong links with Durham City Folk Club which meets on Thursday nights.
