Life And Death Of A Durham Man
 | An Old Engraving Of Lumley Castle By Thomas Allom
I felt quite proud to live near Lumley Castle although, in all likelihood, our family would be the people trying to eke out a living outside the grounds.

Prologue
 | Me - Dick Fawcett Junior!
My name is Dick Fawcett (Richard on a Sunday) as was my father before me, and this site is dedicated to his memory although the last time I saw him was in 1941 when I was five years old. Now that I'm 67 I often can't remember details of yesterday but incidents which occurred in my infancy remain vivid in my memory.
I have a few photographs which I will include to tell the story of my father's life and death.
I am indebted to author Arthur Lane, a survivor of "The Fall of Singapore" and Japanese POW Camps. His book "When You Go Home" led me to links which filled in some of the gaps in my knowledge of my father's final years. Also to Michael Hurst, Director of the Taiwan POW Memorial Society. Links to these, and others, are on the Links Page. |
