In the PM's backyard

The Red Lion has received a gold award for its smoke free environment. I suspect a great many more gold awards will be on the way to the Red Lion, 39 Front St. North, Trimdon Village, Co. Durham because the food is magnificent.
It is easily reached from either the A1M or the A19 (use multi map to find this cracking little pub. Its post code is TS29 6PG.)
I called in one lunchtime with colleagues from DCC as someone was off to pastures new. If you are going on an evening could I suggest you book because a pub that serves food as good as this will always be popular. Telephone: 01429 880274.
There is brilliant menu and traditional bar fayre ranging from breaded scampi at £6.25p, steak and kidney pudding with homemade chips, mushy peas and lashing of gravy for just £6.95.
The fresh fish supplied we are told by Hodgson's of Hartlepool will be fresh because I do know Hodgsons land fish daily. Hartlepool the home of fine fish and a great little football team!
There is a selection of sizzling skillets including Black bean beef, sweet and sour chicken and Moroccan Pork or if you really want to push the boat out there is a selection of steaks from £10.50.
There is an extensive board menu for the restaurant starters and main courses presented by the award winning chef.
If you are looking for a lunchtime snack they have a great range of sandwiches from Yorkshire Ham, chicken caeser, Chicken Balti, Beef and Stilton, ham and pineapple and prawn and Marie Rose.
If I now tell you that they have a very nice Australian Chardonnay for less than a tenner you realise this is good value for money.
Yes this is a roaring find in Trimdon Village and could eventually become a King amongst restaurants.
I received a very warm welcome from Gordon Wright the proprietor but of course as usual he had no idea I was taste testing his wonderful pub.I suspect all customers arrive as strangers and leave as friends - its that sort of place.
Remember the name The Red Lion, Front St North Trimdon - at the sign of good food.
Book your reservation now on 01429 880274 - you will not be disappointed.
We visited again on 25th July for my birthday.
First class and obviously the word is getting around because of the number of people using the Red Lion.
One thing I forgot to mention - there is a large car park to the rear of the Red Lion and yes they do take plastic.
