Fine hotel on Loch Fyne

In August Lorna and I visited Tarbert, Loch Fyne on the Mull of Kintyre. In addition to doing the usual touristy things - a trip to Campbeltown and Oban, a trip on the last ocean going paddle steamer The Waverley was cancelled due to the inclement weather. It was raining - not your usual bog standard rain - but horizontal rain as you can only get in Scotland.
Nevertheless this afforded us the opportunity to dine at the Columba Hotel, on the shores of Loch Fyne.
I could never do justice to the extensive menu offered at The Columba Hotel so here is an extract:
Sample Restaurant Menu £ 22.50 | Coffee £ 1.80

*American Fish Soup with Garlic Croutons and Spiced Rouilly Sauce
*Fresh Oyster Platter with a Shallot and Cider Dressing
*Columba Chicken and Lamb Liver Pate with Pumpkin Chutney and Port Wine Jus
*Pearls of Galia Melon with Black and White Grapes and orange and Mint Syrup
*Warm Basil Pancake with a Spinach and Wild Mushroom filling flamed in Malt Whisky
******
*Grilled Brochette of Chicken and Smoked Bacon with Tarragon and Coated by a Garlic and White Wine Sauce
*Grilled West Coast Sea Bass rolled in Crystal Salt and Accompanied by a Nutmeg Beurre Blanc
*Roast Noisette of west Highland Lamb on a Potato Galette with a Hot Leek and Chilli Relish
*Steamed Escalope of Loch Fyne Salmon served on a Roast Sweet Pepper with a Lime and Cinnamon Cream Sauce
*Pan Fried Collops of Prime Scottish Beef Fillet Glazed with a Mashed Onion and Red Wine Sauce
*Pan Fried Haunch of Inveraray Venison with Caramelised King Scallops and a Saffron and Pine Kernel Veloute
*Fresh Potato Gnocchi on a bed of Steamed Lettuce Grilled with Dunsyre Blue Cheese and White Wine Sauce
******

*Selection of Puddings or Scottish Cheeses with Oatcakes

If you are planning to stay at The Columba Hotel I can tell you that rooms start at £39.95 p.p. per night and they have some cracking deals on especially in the winter months.
I don't need to tell you that they have a selection of more than 50 whiskey's which you would expect. Well this is Bonnie Scotland and after a few whiskey's it get's even bonnier!

I have created a link to their own website. Please be assured even if the weather at Loch Fyne is a tad wetter than you would wish a night at the Columba Hotel will bring a smile back to your face.
Place a coin on the "lucky wall" above the fire place to record your visit.
