Sharing an enthusiasm for embroidery and stitch

Darlington Embroiderers' Guild has promoted the love of embroidery since the Branch was formed in the town in the autumn of 1979 and we are now celebrating our 30th Anniversary Year!

Members have shared that enthusiasm with people in Darlington and the surrounding district through a regular programme of talks, workshops, day schools, exhibitions and displays.

Membership of the Branch and the Embroiderers' Guild is open to all, from the leisure stitcher to the talented professional and the keen student. It is a myth that you have to be an expert to join, and everyone, whatever their level of experience, is very welcome at meetings and workshops. You can become a member, or join us for a meeting as a visitor and never even pick up a needle!!

Exploring New Techniques

Many members enjoy the satisfaction of working a cross stitch or simple canvas work design - from small scale through to challenging, intricate patterns. They then look to discover different techniques and expand their experience. Seeing other ideas and styles is a tempting way to explore new areas.

The local Branch is an ideal forum from which to broaden your horizons of embroidery whilst at the same time widening your circle of friends and sharing your experience with others.

Embroidery continues to build upon a wonderful heritage of skills carried down from past generations. It offers a rich legacy stretching out to encompass commissions and church embroidery: items for home and family and personal enrichment through fashion and accessories. Increasingly it is also seen as a rewarding, fun and creative process with individual art textiles being recognised alongside more conventional art pieces.

The Head Office of the Embroiderers' Guild. London

The Head Office and main resource centre has for a number of years been at Hampton Court Palace in London - (for more detailed information visit the E. Guild Head Office page on this website.)

The Embroiderers' Guild is a national organisation with Branches in all areas of the UK. It is the main craft organisation for the promotion and enjoyment of embroidery. Membership of the Guild introduces you to a network of contacts and opens the door to a world in which embroidery is admired and promoted for the enjoyment of all.
