Letter dated 17 July 2007
Dear Parents
Sounds in the Grounds 2007
A big thank you to everyone who supported and took part in our annual fundraising event. We are still waiting for some expenses to come in, but it looks like we will have raised well over £3000, which of course will benefit every child attending the school. We hope to upgrade the outdoor storage areas and to augment literacy and numeracy on the interactive whiteboards.
REMINDER: Yr 6 Leavers Trip - Wednesday 18 July 2007
Just a reminder that the Yr 6 children may come to school in their own outdoor clothes. We will be leaving at 11.30 a.m. and expect to return for about 4.15 p.m. Please note - they will not need a packed lunch. Travel will be by car with Mr Kirby. They may take £2.00 spending money – but the trip is paid for out of School Funds.
If parents want to know any further details, please do come and speak to me, but we are hoping to keep the venue of the trip a surprise for the children. We also need a consent form signing for this outing.
REMINDER: Sports Day - Thursday 19 July 2007
We intend to hold our annual sports day on the green from 1.30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends for children and cream teas will be available to purchase for spectators. We would like to thank Mrs Hornby and Mrs Creer for volunteering to organise.
We are desperate for some parent volunteers to help with the races, please let us know if you are able to assist.
REMINDER: Disco – Friday 20 July 2007
Just a reminder that Friends have organised a children’s disco at 6.30 p.m. – 8.30 p.m. £1.00 to include a hotdog and juice. Parent helpers to meet at the village hall at 6.00 p.m.
REMINDER: Tuesday 24 July 2007 – End of Term Leavers Service
The church service will be at Forcett with a start time of 1.30 p.m., please note this is earlier than usual. This is an attempt to give us more time for walking and to return to school with those children who need to for the usual end of term 3.00 p.m. finish.
Swimming – Autumn Term 2007
All the children will be starting the swimming programme on Monday 10 September 2007 at 10.30 a.m., there will be nine swimming sessions. The coach will leave school at 9.45 am and return at approximately 11.45 am. As before, the whole school will be attending. The voluntary contribution will be £2.00 per child and the School Fund will subsidise the balance. The total will be £18.00 for the nine sessions for each child.
If a child is absent, the parent should still pay to cover the costs of tuition and transport.
The dates for swimming are:-
10, 17, 24 September
1, 8, 15 October
5, 12, 19 November
Cheques should be made payable to Eppleby Forcett School Fund.
Milk
May we respectfully remind you that milk monies are now due and should be paid to Mrs Hornby.
We hope the children have a lovely break, and wish the children who are leaving us all the best in their new schools. We look forward to welcoming our new starters to the school and seeing everyone else again on Tuesday 4 September 2007. Please note Monday 3 September 2007 is a training day.
Yours sincerely

Letter dated 6 September 2007
Dear Parents
We would like to welcome back all the children and hope that everyone had a great holiday.
PE
We would ask that children bring their PE kit in the drawstring bags provided and that it should remain in school until the half term.
Swimming
May we remind parents that swimming commences as from next Monday. The cost is £18.00 per child, cheques to be made payable to Eppleby Forcett School Fund.
Although we do prefer receiving the full amount in order to reduce on admin, if anyone is finding the payment difficult to make, you may pay £2.00 per week per child – but please speak to either Mr Kirby or Mrs Emmett.
We need volunteer parents who could help with the swimming sessions each week on a rota basis. This would mean helping on the coach and in the changing rooms. If anybody could spare the time for this we would be most grateful. The coach leaves school at 9.45 a.m. and returns by 11.45 a.m. If you are able to help, please place your name on the rota on the notice board.
It is now a legal requirement for us to have any parent helpers complete a CRB form before they are able to help in school.
Please complete the Annual Consent form attached to enable children to participate in local and rolling programme visits during this school year. (This form has already been distributed to the new starters.)
Dinner Money
There is an increase on the price of a school lunch, with immediate effect the cost will be £1.80, which works out at £9.00 per week. This extra cost is due to an increase in catering staff costs.
Payment for dinner money can be made weekly or half termly, although the NYCC are encouraging parents to now pay in half termly blocks. If you are currently paying weekly and would like to pay just once a half term, please see Mrs Emmett and she will issue you with a bill. Cheques need to be made payable to NYCC Eppleby Forcett School
Tesco Vouchers
The school is now collecting vouchers for sports equipment or coaching.
Friends Meeting – Wednesday 19 September 2007
There will be a Friends Meeting at the school at 6.30 p.m. We would especially like to invite our new starter parents and as always anyone is very welcome to attend. All ideas and contributions towards helping with the friends are very much appreciated and valued.
Netball Club – Mondays 3.30 – 4.15 pm
Netball Club every Monday, it is for KS2 children, boys and girls. PE kit will need to be worn.
Please note there is a proposed match at Middleton Tyas school on Wednesday 19 September 2007 straight after school. The children will be transported by Mrs Webber and Mrs Hornby, and expect to return to the school for about 5.30 p.m.
Author Visit – Thursday 20 September 2007
We are delighted that Helen Pieichaty, authoress will be joining us for the whole day. She will be involving the whole school in various workshops and lessons, and will hopefully help to bring literacy alive for the day. It is costing the school £300, and therefore we need to ask a contribution of £3.00 per child to go towards some of the cost. Please make any cheques payable to Eppleby Forcett School Fund.
Crucial Crew – Friday 28 September 2007
The Yr 5 and Yr 6 children will be attending Crucial Crew at RAF Leeming in the afternoon. The children will travel by coach. As we have to hire a coach now due to the large amount of numbers in Yr 5 and Yr 6 – we do need to ask for a contribution towards the travel and would ask for £3.00 per child, this will pay for half the cost and the school fund will subsidise the rest. Please make any cheques payable to Eppleby Forcett School Fund.
Theatre Trip – Wednesday 3 October 2007
We have booked seats for the whole school to see ‘Danny the Champion of the World’ at Darlington Civic Theatre in the morning. Children will be travelling by coach and we will need to ask for a contribution of £5.00 per child towards the cost. The School Fund will subsidise the remaining amount. Please make cheques payable to Eppleby Forcett School Fund.
Westmount Rubbings – Tuesday 16 October 2007
We have arranged for Westmount Rubbings to visit the school on this day. There will be a workshop in the morning for the KS2 children which will link in to a current theme based on this terms curriculum. The KS1 children will have their workshop in the afternoon which will also link in to their curriculum theme. We do need to make a charge for this event at £2.00 per child. Cheques to be made payable to Eppleby Forcett School Fund.
SAG
SAG will start again after the break for the Juniors – as before. We shall be putting a rota on the notice board, any parent who would like to help with the SAG activities, please place your name against the activity of your choice.
We will again ask the children to commit themselves to 4 sessions of the same choice.
The categories will be as follows: Football, Gardening, Cookery and one other to be decided.
You don’t need to sign up for all four sessions, but something that might take a couple of sessions to complete you may like to sign up for more than one.
We hope that you will feel able to contribute.
The dates set for the next SAG sessions are 20 and 27 September and 4 and 11 October, the sessions will run from 3.30 – 4.30 p.m.
The session will cost 50p and will include a drink and chocolate biscuit.

All the main high street retailers are there, such as AA, BBC Shop, Butlins, Canvas Holidays, Carphone Warehouse, CD-Wow, Comet, Cotton Traders, Early Learning Centre, Littlewoods, Marks and Spencers etc. Many of them give discounts for buying on line and some free delivery.
Operation Christmas Child
The school has decided that we will take part in the Operation Christmas Child appeal. This is a campaign to decorate and fill shoe boxes with Christmas gifts for distribution amongst children in some of the most deprived parts of Europe and Africa. We would ask that children save a shoe box and a leaflet will be sent home to parents shortly explaining about the campaign.

Dear Parents
Head Lice
There have been a number of instances of Head Lice recently. Could we please ask all parents to check their child’s hair carefully and treat if necessary.
This is a pointless exercise unless everyone checks and takes appropriate action, otherwise the infestation just keeps going round.
Thursday 18 October 2007 – Bag 2 School
Don’t forget to bring your bags of unwanted clothes and soft furnishings to school to be collected at 3.30 p.m.
Staff Changes
Mrs Jones has started her maternity leave, we would like to welcome Ms Duncombe-Shafto as our new relief MSA. Mrs Creer and Ms Duncombe-Shafto will job share the post until Mrs Jones returns.
DEADLINE – 24 OCTOBER 2007 - Secondary School Transfer
There are still a number of preference forms outstanding for the Yr 6 children. Please don’t under estimate the importance of meeting the deadline, and please be aware that in order for forms to reach the LEA office at Northallerton via school, we need them in before we break up on Friday 19 October 2007.
If you wish to send direct to the LEA, or complete on-line, please let school know that you have done that as the Pupil and Parent Services at the LEA is due to move offices as from Monday 22 October and we want to ensure that forms don’t get lost in the system.
Operation Christmas Child
Please find attached leaflet explaining what to collect for the shoe boxes children were asked to save for this cause. We need to have the boxes completed in the early part of November in order to reach their destination in time.
Please help your child to support this worthy cause.

SAG will start again after the break for the Juniors – as before. We shall be putting a rota on the notice board, any parent who would like to help with the SAG activities, please place your name against the activity of your choice.
We will again ask the children to commit themselves to 4 sessions of the same choice.
The categories to be decided, if anyone has something in mind, please do come in and mention to a member of staff.
You don’t need to sign up for all four sessions, but something that might take a couple of sessions to complete you may like to sign up for more than one.
We hope that you will feel able to contribute.

The sessions will cost £2.00 and will include a drink and chocolate biscuit. We would ask that children pay £2.00 at the start as children are forgetting to bring in their 50p’s each week.
Admissions
If any parents know of families with younger children in the area, could you please mention to them to let us know if they wish to be placed on our waiting list. We have to provide forecasts for budgeting purposes of future numbers on roll and it would help us immensely to know who we possibly need to contact with relevant forms at the appropriate time.
We break up on Friday 19 October 2007 for half term and look forward to seeing the children again on Monday 29 October 2007.
Yours sincerely
