ROOKIES ON TOUR 2002
 | During the summer holidays of 2002, the very succesful rookie lifeguard programme went on a field trip to Saltburn and Redcar to look at the way lifeguards and the coastguard go about looking after the people who use our beaches and swim in our sea.
The rookie programme is available to all children from 8 to 15 years old no matter what swimming ability to learn how to react and help people in trouble in any water environment, from swimming pools to water safety at home.

LEARN THE WATER SAFETY CODE
Whenever you are near water, you should follow the water safety code.
STEP ONE: SPOT THE DANGERS
*look out for possible dangers
STEP TWO: TAKE SAFETY ADVICE
*ask the lifeguards where it is safe to
swim.
*look out for warning signs and flags
STEP THREE:DON`T GO ALONE
*never swim on your own
STEP FOUR:LEARN HOW TO HELP
*how to help yourself and others
*calling the emergency services
