How it all began!

Families Against Bullying (FAB) was set up in November 1995 by ourselves (Paul and Jan McFarlane)following an extremely traumatic three years of strife in our endeavours to bring to an end the horrific campaign of bullying to which our son was subjected at the local comprehensive school.

Feeling we had nowhere to turn to and anticipating that other families must be experiencing similar distress (although at the time we felt we were the only family in the whole world suffering)we decided to embark on a path to provide support to victims of school bullying and their families.

By pure coincidence our younger daughter returned home from her primary school and presented us with a leaflet which she received from the visiting Community Liaison Police Officer concerning an organisation entitled Kidscape.

Having eagerly read this leaflet we telephoned Kidscape and discussed our ideas with them which were received with enthusiasm. We were provided with a significant amount of Kidscapes literature dealing with the issue of bullying. This provided us with a solid foundation on which to develop.

We now provide free confidential practical and emotional support by the provision of telephone help-line with answering machine facility, publications, home visits (local only) audio/visual presentations, representation at meetings with school and education authority officials (local only).

As a result of recent developments we now intend to offer a similar service to adult survivors of school bullying who remain traumatised.
