Refurbishment of Park Pavilion
 | The Friends plan to refurbish and reopen the Pavilion in the Summer,to provide refreshments and toilet facilities. We have already secured £1000 in funding for this project ,with a grant from the Respect Task Force.
LATEST NEWS
We have now secured a grant of £5000 from Awards for All and £1000 from George Wimpey Homes. This brings our total to £7000, so we intend to begin as soon as possible.
We would welcome ideas for developing the Pavilion as a community resource. Please send your ideas,or better still, come to our next meeting of The Friends of Eastbourne Park.
MORE GOOD NEWS
B&Q have agreed to donate £400 worth of garden furniture (wooden tables and chairs) to this project. These can be set outside the Pavilion so patrons can enjoy refreshments in the fine weather.
PROGRESS REPORT: APRIL
Although you would never guess it from looking at the outside(!) a lot of progress has been made. The building is being brought up to the required standards re Health and Safety, Building and Fire Regulations. We have had to submit a change of use planning application to the council as well as improve access inside and out.A servery is being built;a new alarm system and fire doors are due to be installed and public liability insurance obtained.
The to-do list gets longer and longer. Having said that, 7 members have obtained their Food Hygene Certificates (essential) in readiness for the opening of the cafe, planned for the Summer Carnival 16th Junr 2pm.
It would also be ideal to have more picnic benches in place by then. All your votes have been noted and there is overwhelming support for this project. We are following this up with DBC, who installed the three last year.

Northumbria In Bloom Entry
Eastbourne Park hopes to enter the Northumbria in Bloom competition this year.
The winter bedding of primulas will be removed and replanted around the Park when the summer bedding arrives.
We are going to site hanging baskets by the Pavilion and create a rockery garden.Plans also include new trees and bushes.
Volunteers are needed, so if you have the time, please get in touch with the Friends.
Latest news
The Friends have bought £400 worth of gardening tools to use in the Park.Up till now,we have had to use our tools ,carrying them various distances,if we have been planting bedding or bulbs. This will be far easier and more convenient for the volunteers . |
Path & Gates from Manor
 | | Darlington Manor has supported many of the Friends'projects. They would like a gate from the home directly into the Park. This would make it much easier for the residents to access the activities that will be taking place. The Friends support their application for funding. |

Rockery Garden
 | | The big stones at the top of the Park serve no useful purpose,in fact they restrict the football pitches. We intend to move them to the bottom end of the Park and use them to create a rockery garden. |

Park Shelter / Bandstand
The Friends are working closely with Groundwork North West Durham and the Lascelles Community Partnership on plans to develop the open space between the Park and Lascelles.
Lascelles are keen to have a youth shelter ,so we have decided not to have a youth shelter in Eastbourne Park.
Represenatives from both Partnerships have met with a Landscape Architect and "walked out" the area. Our suggestions are going to be incorporated into a new plan for the Park and the open area on Lascelles. We will keep you informed about developments. |
Survey.
In response to the on-line survey, more litter bins have been installed in the park.
The picnic tables have been a success -people want more of them,so we shall work towards buying them and having them installed this summer.
Please use the survey -it helps us decide our priorities for the year and thanks to all those who have already voted.
