GRAND GALA SUNDAY 11 AUGUST 2013
GRAND GALA IN HARDWICK COUNTRY PARK SUNDAY 11th AUGUST
The Friends of Hardwick are promoting a Grand Gala to mark the
150th anniversary of a fund-raising event which was held on the same day in 1863 for the benefit of Sedgefield Mechanics’ Institute, now the Parish Hall.
It is purely a commemorative event with any funds raised going to the
Friends of Hardwick. Activities on the day will, hopefully, include
‘Old Time Athletics' with young competitors in outfits of the time;
Punch and Judy; Guided walks round the Park by characters of the time.; Tethered hot air balloon trips (donations requested.);
‘Hardwick Steeplechase’ with Shetland ponies. Fishburn Brass band.
Entrance is free (car parking charges will apply). Catering in the Castle Cafe.
A fun day for all the family! Everyone welcome.

The Hardwick Hall Country Park, administered by Durham County Council, lies a short distance to the west of Sedgefield, a small rural town midway between Durham and Stockton-on-Tees. The country park is well used and appreciated by people both from Sedgefield and further afield as a place for informal recreation in pleasant surroundings, with wood, water and wildlife all well represented. The presence of several ornamental buildings suggests even to the casual visitor that Hardwick has a richer story to tell.
