Something Very Different
A group of eight members visited York Cemetery recently to try and gain ideas to inprove Redcar Cemetery. We were welcomed by the Chairman of the Trustees with a welcome cup of tea in the recently refurbished Chapel.
The walkabout that followed showed us how vastly different York Cemetery is with 125,000 burials and the emphasis being on ecology area is vast and to some very overgrown and unkept.Wildlife is very much to the forefront of their thinking. The gravestones seem to disappear in a jungle of bramble bushes which they admit are very difficult to eliminate.
We also found the gravestone standing side by side touching one another such was the urgent need of burial space in years gone by | |
