Mel' s Fish and Chip Shop

Next to the Village Hall is the Frosterley Fish and Chip Shop. You know that, just in case you did not see "Fish and Chip Shop" as there's a large mermaid and life size sea gulls hanging up in the window.

The flower baskets

In the summer it's a competition between the Co-op and Mel as to who has the largest hanging flower baskets. I think Mel may have be just the winner in 2003 but that's just a personal opnion. There are sometimes humerous poems up on the Community Notice Board inside the shop which makes good reading as you wait for your orders to me put together.

Weardale Pork and North Shields Fish

Frosterley is very lucky to have Mel who manages the fish and chip shop. Someone who has a passion for fresh home made food of excellent quality and using only the best ingredients. Home made pies, pasties, quiches - inches deep so that they resemble towering slabs of quivering egg and mushroom or other mixture, bound together on a light pastry. The pork buns are something to die for. Long legs of pork which have been first marinated in Mel's special spice mixture and then slowly roasted. Generous pork slices served in a large soft floury white bun with apple sauce and stuffing. Roast potatoes if you want them. Fresh fish from North Shields. The fish is coated in a rich flakey batter and is usually cooked to order. A wide variety of traditonal puddings, sausages and of course Mel is always trying things out.

So when visiting the Village Hall, have a look in at Mel's.
