What is Redheugh All About ?

In 1957 my friend ran a boxing club for boys in the area, and asked me if I'd help stretch it to football as well, and the Boys' Club was born. I started off with an under-18 side and we took it from there”
The above is a statement from club secretary and founder member of Redheugh Boys Football Club – Evan Bryson.
Since 1957 the Club has grown from one U18 team to now operating twelve teams covering the age groups from 8’s to 18’s.
The two other Elderly Statesmen of the club are Alex McPherson and Alan Blackburn. The three Amigos have held the club together for many a decade.
The Club has recently been honored with the Chartered Standard Award. This was down to a lot of hard work by the Club Leader- Terry Ritson.
The club has grown along way since the founding of the club in 1957. From the humble beginnings of one team run from a boxing club. Redheugh now runs twelve teams from U8’S to U18’S.
The club has always encouraged children of all abilities to come and join the Club both on the football side and social side.
The club is based in the Old School Building next to TyneView School in the Teams Gateshead.

At the club the children can play snooker, pool and table tennis and also enjoy the tuck shop before and after matches and training.
Training:
The club has a new training facility at Esslington Park, which is situated in the Teams area of Gateshead. Training under floodlights creates a very special atmosphere and it is very hard to get the players off at the end of training sessions.
Girls are also starting to get involved and train on the mini soccer school evening. This will go along way in helping the Club gain Community Club Status.
The clubs training nights are:
Monday Night 6.15 until 8.00pm
U16’s – Manager Paul Brown
U13’s – Manager Paddy Loughrin
Tuesday Night 5.30 until 8.15pm
U11’s – Manager Paul Malone 5.30/7.00pm
U12’s – Manager Eddy Johnson 6.00 until 8.00pm
U15’s – Managers Peter Featherstone / Terry Ritson 6.30 until 8.15
Wednesday Night 5.30 until 8.30pm
Mini Soccer School
Age Groups from U7’s to U9’s
Coaches / Managers Les Stokoe, Brian Pilkington and Gary Bratton.
Thursday Night
U14’s – Managers John Martin / Jimmy Shand 6.00 until 8.00pm
U17/18’s – Manager Wilf Reed 7.00 until 8.30pm
The Club has achieved the FA’s Chartered Standard award and all of the coaches and managers have some form of coaching qualification (see coaches page)
The Boys Club is a member of the National Association of Clubs for Young Children and participates in many tournaments around the country including Blackpool and the Ayr Youth Tournaments.
Football for the club is based in the Durham County FA and the teams can travel from areas like Consett to Darlington. This again is a great experience for the players who get to visit new places and play against different opposition.
Last season the club was very successful on the field with league and cup final victories to add to the Trophy cabinet:
U13’s
Treble Winners - Sage Tournament Winners
U14’s
Double Winners - Sage Tournament Winners- Leam Rangers Tournament
U17’s
League Winners
U18’s
County Cup Winners
The club runs through the close season and has a Club Championship. All age groups have a chance to play snooker, pool, table tennis and badminton.
Every body that takes part receives a medal, which is presented to them at our annual Presentation Night, which is staged at the Fed Brewery.
This year’s presentation was a great success with over 600 football fanatical fans players, parents, aunts, uncles, grannies, and granddads making it a special night.
The club has a great history of producing great footballers such as Gazza and Don Hutchinson. This is something for the children to aspire to but at the club our aim is for the kids to receive a good start in life, sporting discipline and most importantly enjoy playing football.
If any one would like to come down and join please contact the club on:
