18/12/05 Congratulations on this Redcar site. Will it ever become as popular as those of Southbank and Grangetown? I most certainly hope so!. My memories of Redcar are mainly of the years between 1947 and 1955. The Coatham hotel and Pier dances, although there were a couple of others, The Swan and the Red Lion. I lived in West Terrace,(between the Clock and the Bandstand)and look back on those years with nostalgia.
The names of some of my dancing partners come to mind. Does anyone know what became of Maureen Hamilton, Pat Whitcomb,Claire Stevens and Joan Fotheringham, who had a hairdressing salon in Redcar? I left Redcar in 1955 to live in South Africa and have been here since then, with all too infrequent visits to the Northeast. Just enough to note, and deplore, some of the changes that have taken place.
I should be pleased to hear from anyone with rememberances of the years I've mentioned.
Seasons greetings to all!

Hi All,
Hope this site takes off as interested in Redcar Band Stand in 1920's - 1930's. Hope there are those out there interested in family history in Redcar and surrounding area.
All the very best.
Val.

I grew up in Redcar (as from 1948) and would be happy to contribute reflections and possibly a couple of older photos. In fact I recently completed an autobiography of sorts and have a number of people I was at school with, and neighbours, and that sort of thing if all of this is of any use.
