Hi everyone Looking for a Thomas Thompson born in Shildon in 1938. His parents were John (Jack) and Ada Thompson, they had a fish shop in Garden Street, before Peacocks owned it. Ada Thompson died in 1950. John(Jack) Thompson died in 1955. Can anyone remember Thomas Tompson and his whereabouts.

I lived in Shildon from 1947 until 1975, and attended St Johns infants and juniors, then Bp Auckland Girls Grammar School. I'd love a copy of the DVD - where can I get it and does it contain pictures of Shildon's own "Grand Canyon"? - the burned out pit heap which used to be on the site of the SCouts Field down West Road.

I am curious if anyone knows the whereabouts of Walter or Jack Bainbridge who would have lived in Shildon in the 1950's and 1960's.

I lived in Shildon from 1958 -76 when I moved to Chester. I think I may be a relative of Christine Hawkesworth who signed the guest book some time ago as my mother was a Jeffries of Fulton Terrace and I can remember her telling me that Arthur Wood the window cleaner was a relative of ours. Look forward to sharing some family history information! Great site keep up the good work!

Some readers will know of myself and my family origins in Shildon. My wife pauline, my son Mark and myself of course are the last of the Abley family to still reside in Shildon. Glad to have visited this web site, found when conducting a search for buriels at West road Cemetery. I am searching for information regarding any of my family burial's in their. My brother Steve who now lives near Dallas, Texas, USA is building a comprehensive family tree and he is having trouble finding information about buriels in the West Road cemetery. We are fine with our parents burials but we know there are more family members including a grand father and others from spouses families etc. Is it possible to view the arquives the recall society have online? The site is a great idea thanks to all the work the society members have put into it. Well done all. Best wishes for 2010

Hi, I am compiling a memorabilia book for my mum and dad, Lawrence Arthur and Margaret Nunn formerly of Shildon..Dad was from Charles Street and Mum was daughter of Thomas and Bessie Thompsaon Of Scott Street. All male members of the family were involved in the railways for most of their working lives. My Autie, Gwendoline Austin, nee Nunn still lives there, also her family. I visited recently and found Scott St still there but not Charles Street. If anyone can remember them I would love to hear from you. Mum had a brother Tommy and a sister Joan who is still alive and married Creswell Dunn. Their son Anthony and I are stilll very close. It was sad to see All Saints Church no longer in use but I loved the Locomotive set up and took lots of photos for him there. Mum went to Timothy Hackworth School so maybe there will be someone who remmbers her from there. I look forward to hearing any news that will help me..Dad is 84 now and doing well. Mum is also very fit for her age og 81.

Syd Wood lived in 1 Spencley Street until his death in the 1970's when his housekeeper's son (no relation to Syd) by the surname of 'Stark' inherited the business, and sold it to Jimmy Milner, who still has the business in the town today.
