BBC Music Live - May 2000

Yes, we know it was May and it's now nearly Christmas, but we've just got the photos developed... Well, that's our story and we're sticking to it.

The Haraoke Band took part in this year's BBC Music Live event at TWO venues (yes, music on the move!) in Darlington. The photo shows us outside the Crossroads and Carers Centre in Union Street, behind Boots on Northgate. The centre were having a coffee morning, and we agreed to provide a bit of light background music. We were worried that the weather would be less than kind, after all, it was a Bank Holiday weekend and these are not renowned for being scorchers! Our agreed meet time was 8.30am, and at that time of day it had just stopped raining. We set up the marquee (thanks to the Triumph Stag Owners Club for lending it to us) and set up our small pa system in the back of Andy's van. We played, people listened, people sang, people danced and people drank coffee. A tidy sum was raised for Crossroads and Carers.

At lunchtime, we packed the gear into the van and drove off up Northgate to Darlington United Reformed Church for, you've guessed it, a coffee afternoon. Our pitch was scheduled to be the front yard, but to be honest we were almost frozen stiff from playing in the wind in Union Street, so we opted to play in the church porch. Just in case people missed us, we left the speakers from our pa outside. numerous fols cam in to see the church - must have been strange wandering past and hearing Rock Around the Clock bellowing out of the church doors. Another tidy sum was raised.

By around three we were pretty well exhausted, as was the coffee so we called it a (very successful) day and packed up. A good time was had by all, we think. Well, no-one complained directly, anyway. So now we're looking forward to next year when we can do it all again. In the mean time, we are still available to bring our own particular brand of fun to your event, so why not drop us an email?
