WEEK 22 - END OF SEASON

Unfortunately the 1st XI lost to Eryholme by 3 wickets - hence losing out on promotion - hard luck - a good season.
The 2nd XI also lost - going down by 33 runs to Cockerton

Two reports to follow soon from Nezy and Dave

2nd team report from Dave:-

Haughton Seconds against Cockerton Seconds.

In what is almost become a tradition Haughton made the short trip across town to play old adversaries Cockerton in the last game of the season. Dave lost the toss and Cockerton elected to bat on what looked a great batting track. Brownie and Fez opened the bowling and the hosts got off to a fine start with dave Lee scoring all of his runs in boundaries before he was bowled for 16, after an indifferent spell from Fez and with the threat of being taken out of the attack he removed the other Cockerton opener ripping out the middle stump with a beauty of a ball, Brownie picked up another wicket near the end of his spell, a neat catch behind by Andrew Sturg. A double change with Craig Rennie and Johnny Sturg bowling, unfortunately Johnny lost his line and was taken off after 3 expensive overs and replaced by Ryan Lawrence. Wickets continued to fall but runs were still getting scored at a brisk rate until 2 superb catches accounted for the main run getters, Richie taking a great left handed catch on the run and Brownie doing is superman impression flying through the air to gave Ryan a wicket. A big thank you at this stage to Dave Lee who umpiring told Brownie he was lucky to get the wicket as when he landed the ball hit the floor whilst still in is hands. This act of sportsmanship was to be repaid later. Craig then took 2 wickets quickly, one with a ball that nipped back and just clipping the leg- side bail, the other a good catch by Ryan catching one over his shoulder. They both picked up another wicket each, one an easy catch by Dave and Fez came back into the attack to take the last wicket with his first ball back. Craig finished with 4-32 and Ryan, Fez and Brownie all finished with 2 wickets each, Cockerton had reached 137 all out.

In my opinion without doubt the best served tea away from Haughton was served including Johnny’s famous chicken wraps (He should of got copyright) and Reidys chicken goujons.

Ash and Brownie started off the innings with Brownie looking good until he thin edged one to the wicketkeeper and walked though the ball was very close to being caught on the half-volley, and when Ash followed quite soon afterwards things were looking dodgy, this was made worse when Reidy was out for a duck, Andrew 1 and Dave for a first ever “Golden Duck” (I know what it feels like now Gary) when he too walked after the faintest of edges to the keeper, the umpire at the time was going to give it not out as he did not think an edge was made, Paul again batted well before he was bowled for 12 and Fez also went after a few nice shots for 9 . Ritchie was joined by Ryan and they rescued the innings with quick singles and some quality shots. They added in excess of 50 until Ritchie was out to a high full toss (close to a no ball) for 27, the innings quickly ended then with Ryan getting 19, and Johnny out for another duck, Craig was unbeaten on 2 and the innings ended on 104 all out.

An enjoyable game played with competitiveness and great sportsmanship.

WEEK 21

The 1st XI lost in a table top match against a strong Middleton in Teesdale XI by 98 runs and drop to 3rd in the league. This sets up a cruch game against Eryholme next week - the winner gets promotion.
The 2nd XI gained 20 points due a disappointing walk over against Heighington 2nd XI.

WEEK 20

The 1st XI continue on course for promotion with a ONE wicket victory, despite their best endeavours to lose this match with some attrocious fielding - I counted at least SIX dropped catches - mostly easy ones!! I will not give a report as Nezy has promised me a full report. However, I bet Dave Edwards is knackered today - bowled right through and 50 not out!!
The 2nds lost by only 9 runs in a close game against Lands - report to follow?

WEEK 20 match reports - thanks to Nezy and Dave

Haughton 1st's vs Middelton Tyas Haughton Winning By 1 Wicket.

With a side missing Colin and Opening bowler Neil, things looked a little grim. Team consisting of, S Bainbridge, J McGuire, M, Dobinson, D McGuire, S Allenby, G McGuire, D Edwards, M Brown, M Lunn, A Shann, D Naisbitt (D Lizard). Sam tossed up on a good hard wicket with a patchy covering of grass. He lost the toss and was asked to field.

Middelton Tyas' Innings.

With Davy Edwards opening from the bottom end and Michael Lunn opening from the top end. Tyas's two opening batsmen seemed to be in a bit of a rush, 20-20 mode seemed inevitable until some tight bowling from Lunny and Davy increased the pressure. A good catch from Allenby at mid-on provided the breakthrough for Haugton and Davey's first wicket. With the run rate now at about 4.5 an over and Lunny beginning to bend his back Haughton were back on top. A great run out from Dobbo off Lunny's bowling at mid on sent the other opener back to the pavilion. For once Sam was right, Pressure DOES = wickets! Bit of news which wont surprise many people, Gary McGuire, (The new and improved Lewy Mann) dropped ANOTHER 2 catches he's now certain for the Lurpack trophy. Well played Gary, you certainly increase moral. With men and chat around the bat for Davy's bowling Middleton's men were certainly under massive pressure. Was a day of butter fingers to be honest, Browny and Nezy also dropping!
relatively easy catches. With Davy picking up another 4 wickets one from a great catch by Browny at point and one in the deep by Nezy (At one point nearly running past it..) Restoring some of his respect as a good fielder. Adding to Davy's respectable figures of 5-74 from 20 overs, should have been 2 more wickets. A stumping which was clearly out, and a caught behind, but, some you get. Some you don't. Middleton set Haughton a target of 189 in 40 overs play. A target which to many seemed below par for the lightning fast outfield and a nice wicket.

With a great tea providing many assortments of sandwiches crisps and cakes, which were by the way rather nice, Middleton took to the field.

Haughton's Innings

With Sam and Jeffery striding to the crease, things looked to be exciting. With Sam announcing to the rest of the team, NO MORE DUCKS FOR ME! First ball which bounces and skids on a bit, Sam is caught down leg-side for a nice round golden duck! Next over and Jeff is bowled to a decent ball but mainly to what Jeff described as a horrible shot. Its then left to Dobbo, and Danny McGuire to restore some calm. Mark plays a beautiful extra cover drive, flares of Geraint Jones. Dobbo then bowled trying to play the same shot and is gone for 16. With Steven and Danny now at the crease, Haughtons 2 youngest players they needed some big innings. A bit of a shaky start from Steven and he settles down knocking a fluent 37 with a mass of boundries. With Gary and Danny at the crease, Danny reaching his maiden 50. Well batted Danny! Danny is out just after reaching his 50, least he didn't bottle it like last time eh' Gaz! With the frightening profile of Davy Edwards striding to the crease, !
was like watching a white Viv Richards. With Gary hitting 22 after swapping bats of course! An unlucky inside edge doing for him. Promoted up the order is Lunny who has to run off to a retirement party. He is bowled for 6 and Browny out for a couple with things beginning to look desperate. Shanny is next in after hitting a single he is also out. Leaving 26 runs from 3 overs for the last wicket partnership. Nezy taking center and then guard like a bunny caught in headlights, his first shot dispatched to the extra cover boundary for a 4. With Davey saying to Jeff, "I thought you said he couldn't bat?!" Next ball Nezy taps a single into the offside to run through for Davey to be on strike. With Davey hitting massive 6's and decapitating some trees on the straight boundary, Haughton cruise to victory with an over and a half left, Davey hitting an unbeaten 53 off about 20 balls. Well played Haughton.

Haughton II’s against Lands II’s

With Martin soon to be departing England for a great adventure Ash was promoted to Captain, a strengthened Lands team, with a few first teamers added Lands batted first, the bowling started off well and Craig Rennie took a key wicket in his first over dismissing one of the Lands First-teamers, a bit of a partnership then materialised and though the scoring was not fast it was going to prove to be a useful score, Dave unfortunately dropped a catch from Adam, a drop that would prove to be key later on, Fez took a wicket with his last over, a plumb LBW, the next wicket to fall was after some great bowling from Johnny, he got one to keep low for another LBW, wickets then started to fall at regular intervals, Sam Newton picked one up then Sturg got 2 in 2, his hat trick ball was a good one but not a wicket he wanted though he got another wicket to finish with, a fine stumping by Dave from a leg side wide to finish with fine figures of 4-20 off 11 overs, Ryan Lawrence bowled well at the death, only conceding 6 runs from his last 3 overs and took a wicket, with Craig Rennie bowling 9 tight overs as well as decent spells from Sam and Ryan and the usual consistency from Adam and Sturg the bowling department is still looking healthy, Lands finished with 129-8 with their opener (the one Dave dropped) batting through for 52 not out.

Another fantastic tea was served with special thanks to Mandy and Albert for their help through the season for the 2nds, and not forgetting Shannon who actually washed up yesterday as well as selling raffle tickets. Ash opened with another different opener, Andrew Sturgeon, both looked comfortable until Ash was dismissed for 16, Reidy was unluckily run out and Andrew walked after a big stumping appeal was turned down by the umpire, a great piece of sporting behaviour from someone so young he also scored 16, Dave joined Phil and continued his good recent form with some fine boundaries but he was caught at midwicket from a half tracker (he realised he had also broken his bat which added to the dismissal), he scored 23, Richie was out LBW without scoring and Craig hit a meaty boundary before he was bowled for 4, Phil finally perished, caught and bowled for 8, Fez hit some fine strokes but was out for 12 and Ryan and Sam then got the score over the hundred mark batting well unfortunately the boundaries dried up but they got us up to another batting point finishing on 120-8, Ryan unbeaten on 17 and Sam 7.

A great effort from the lads against a strengthened Lands Team with everyone contributing to the team and on another day we could of nicked it.

WEEK 19

The 1st XI continue on track for promotion with a close victory over Trimdon CCA - HCC reached 113 all out and just managed to bowl the opposition out for 106 - Colin and Neil taking the 10 wickets between them.
The 2nd XI were given a walk-over over the struggling Trimdon CAA 2nd XI

WEEKS 16,17 & 18 - see Dave's comments in guestbook

WEEK 16

The seconds lost to Aldbrough in the FB Howell Trophy by about 20 runs - falling short of the 135 target set by the home side. No real need for a full report as, hopefully, the lads know they didn't bowl as well as they normally do. The batsmen made a valiant effort [Martin, Craig, Richie and Paul], but we couldn't reach their total.

WEEK 15 - the sun shines and we get two great victories

The 1st XI had a 7 wicket victory over Dales to keep up their challenge in second place in the league. Getting Dales all out for 88 - Lunny 2, Neil 3, Dave 1 and Colin 2 wickets. Danny top scored with 24 not out in the run chase.
The 2nd XI managed a great 7 wicket win over one of their bogey teams - Raby Castle. Holding Raby to 88 for 9 wickets with Browny 3, Martin 2, Sturge 2 and Adam 1 wicket. In reply the victory came quite quickly with Paul clattering 27 and Craig remaining undefeated on 43. HOPEFULLY PROPER REPORTS TO FOLLOW?

GOOD LUCK TO THE 2nd XI ON TUESDAY AT ALDBROUGH IN THE HOWELL SEMI FINAL

WEEK 14

Bloody weather!!!
When will the rain ever stop? - both matches rained off - again!

WEEK 13

Two completed matches - what a novelty!!

Unfortunately the 1st XI lost by 4 wickets to Rockliffe Park 2nd XI - and dropped to second in the league.
The 2nd XI had a fantastic victory over a very strong Barningham team - we dismiised them for 65 runs, Martin 5 for and Adam 3 for - despite losing a few early wickets we managed to gain the required runs with 5 balls to spare.

2nd XI had a temendous victory over King James in the FB Howell cup. We restricted them to 90 for 7 with 3 wickets for Adam and Martin. We managed to get the winning run off the last ball, having lost 7 wickets - another great knock of 43 by Brownie. We are now into the semi final

WEEK 12 - yes chaps we are now in the second half of the season!!!
Both teams beat the weather, but failed to beat the opposition!

1sts lost to East Cowton, despite getting the opposition out for 64 runs [Colin 6 for 5 - wow!!]. The 2nds had a close game at Barton, but just lost by 9 runs. Hopefully two reports to follow.
