Stokesley School Youth Workers Update – June 2009
The final half term is going well; we have been visiting many of the year 10 students and looking at issues regarding the Sanctity of Life. Students have considered the moral and religious dilemmas of Abortion and Euthanasia. We have asked students to look at the different sides to these debates and form opinions. Students have been encouraged to see, as the Psalmist tells us that we are special and known by God from the moment of conception.
Matty Cross works with us part time in the week and has a ministry in street dance. We are hoping through liaising with the P.E department that he will be able to start a group in order to widen our circles with some of the other young people in the school. Kelsey, our gap year volunteer has now completed her year and returns to start university back in the USA. We are excited that Jairn has joined us from Houston, Texas for a 3 week trip. He will be engaging with Students and building on relationships started in his previous mission trip last year.
We held a year 7 workshop on Pentecost. Students looked at the birth and meaning of the church, using different church venues around Stokesley. We are now planning a repeat of our “People of Faith” day for Year 8.
We do appreciate your prayers for our work. Here are a few requests this month!
1. Thank God for the continued work with year 7 through workshops and through Lunch groups.
2. Pray that the People of Faith day will encourage students to think of the impact faith can have on their own lives.
3. Pray for Kelsey as she now goes to University back in Texas.
The Team!
