Getting Started.

The Happy Times Club started in July 2002 when a group of Children from Eskdale Place approached Dorothy Bowman to see if she could find/suggest anything for them to do during the summer holidays Having already worked with the excluded children in the West Ward of Newton Aycliffe Dorothy contacted the funding person she had worked with and he agreed after two 2hr.[when the children had to write down what they wanted to do] meetings with the Eskdale Place children he would help them find ways of doing some of the activities trips they wanted to do.During the summer holidays the children played football every night went on trips to Flamingo Land Preston Park etc. etc Did a sponsored walk had fun days with a bouncy castle and had a fun packed 6 weeks which they all enjoyed. All the children have joined the Junior Neighbourhood Watch and everyone knows each other The age range is strictly 5yrs to 13years.

Next Step

After the Eskdale Play Club had been running for 5 weeks Nicky and Lennie approached Dorothy for help in setting up a play group in their street Whinlatter Place. Nicky and Lennie approached all the children and parents in Whinlatter wrote down all the childrens ages and names {this is a very important part of the setting up procedure as the Childrens Fund is strictly for 5 - 13 years and the Funders do like this to be adhered to.
