The Knaresborough Mummers were formed at Christmas 1974 by four members of Knaresborough Folk Club. The intention was to perform a 'one-off' play for the Christmas party at the club. Due to the response other performances were arranged at local pubs over that Christmas. Further members were recruited and regular appearances started from Easter 1975.
Performing on the street or on the stage , we have travelled all over the country and abroad, taking part in major festivals and events. The team is well known for its lively presentation of traditional Mummers plays which have been adapted to include modern humour.
