Lady, Baby & Gentleman

000532

This photograph was found in the cellar of the Lingdale Tavern, about 25 - 30 years ago. it gives no indication to who it is.

The book title is 'DAISY' published in 1869 by Warnes, and was the 1st in a series written by Susan Warner, it is an american publication.

The photograph has a metallic finish to it, (depending how it is looked at it could almost be a negative), but as yet I am unable to put a date or names to it.
At a rough guess, I think it was probably taken about early 1900's, the Gentlemans suit is of superior quality, but I also think that he came from a mining background, as he has a scarf under his shirt collar.

Many Many Thanks to Violet Wood (nee Ditchburn) for bringing it along to Memories Day, who found it.

The book is available to read online, please use the link below.

Suckling Children

000010

The two girls at the back I think are Rhoda Zena and Muriel Winifred Suckling.

The girl in front in white is possibly Doris Eugenie Suckling, the two small children are unknown, but could be cousins of the Suckling children.

Reg Simons and ?

000014

This photograph was taken inside the Lingdale Tavern many years ago.

The gentleman on the right is Reg Simons, Who is the other gentleman?

Friends

Ernie Wright, ? ,Cyril Pearson, ? .

The man on the right (left facing photo)
is Mr Ernest (Ernie) Wright of Lingdale. Ernie worked on Bain works ICI Wilton. He was a well liked person. Never a cross word, always had a joke and a smile. Ernie ended his time at Wilton as a supervisor. He was Lingdale born and died a few years ago.

This information was kindly contributed by Roy Jacklin who used to work with Ernie.

Photograph was taken early 1940's.

Other names please?

Mrs Coulthard

000585

Standing is Martha Jane (Ninnie) Coulthard (nee Creaser.
Seated is my great grandmother Mrs ??? Coulthard.

This is the family I hope to have contact from.

This pic was taken in 1910 from a group photo, not sure where, perhaps Boosbeck, Guisborough in that area.

I never never had the chance to know grandparents, after they Immigrated to Alberta, Canada. My grandma died 3 years later at the age of 48 yrs. My Dads brother Ernest passed away Aug 1924 before my Grandma & Dad sailed for Canada. My father (Robert William Coulthard) & grandfather (Richard Coulthard) became estranged after that.

Sadly to say I have no info at all so I am hoping that my grandfather had other siblings and the photo will be recognised by someone from the mystery family.

Please contact: Pauline, Alberta, Canada.

Youngsters from the villages Silver Prize Band

The old ironstone mine at Lingdale left more of a mark on the village than a pitheap. It left a sense of pride – in its Lingdale Silver Prize Band.
Like almost everything else at the village, the band grew out the mine. But it has lived on past the years when it was held together at the seams by the tough workers.
It’s a young outfit. The average age is about 18 but there are some members only 13 and 14 years old. One thing that has not changed is its pride of place in East Cleveland. It brings trophies home to Lingdale, puts the village on the map.
And it trains youngsters from the age of seven through a junior section, so it gives an interest to a lot of kids in a spot that has been starved of much organised activity.
Band master Terry Hopper started 30 years back when he was seven. “We rely a lot on young ones coming through keeping us going” he says “We have lost a lot of people in recent years, through their moving away, or through the pressure of work. But we have all sorts in, brickies, labourers, joiners, ICI workers office workers.
A big factor in the bands success now is 21 year old musical director Alan Morrison, who is a solo cornet with the Grimethorpe Colliery Band as well. Meanwhile in the last two years they have reached the Northern finals twice and won the Loftus and the Newton Aycliffe club trophies , won the Tyne and Wear and the Vaux competitions, and made third in last years national finals.

Any names very welcome
