John Oliver

John Oliver b.1838 Kirby Stephen d. 5 July 1908.

Lived in Hamsterly then Evenwood, Co Durham.

Profession is given as a joiner.

Moved to Slapewath Cottage, near Guisborough & worked on the farm there, including looking after the pit ponies from the mines.

Wife: Margaret Ann (nee Stokeld) b. 1842 Kirby Stephen d. 3 March 1922

Children

William b. 11 Sept 1864 d. 25 May 1947. An engineer with Tannet Walker of Hunslet, Leeds installing dockside cranes from 1883 until 1903 then joined Great Central Railway in Grimsby, later the L N E R. Retired in 1911 when he moved to Guisborough, becoming a consulting engineer inspecting products produced by Consett Iron Works among others. Was a staunch Wesleyan Methodist & held practically all the posts open to laymen.
Wife: Mary daughter of John Coatsworth of Lingdale b. 1864 d. 9 Apr 1953. She was the organist at South Street Wesleyan chapel until she married.

George b. 1868, was chief engineer at Sparwood.

Arthur Arnold Oliver b. 1877, was mines manager at Skelton.

Dent Stokeld Oliver b. 1879, was electrician at Sparwood.

James Thompson Oliver b. 1875, worked at Sparwood.

John Oliver b. 1870, was a joiner at South Bank.

Margaret Ann Oliver b. 1867, 'married someone in gold mines in America.

Eveline Oliver b. 1881, (Eva) lived at home with her mother & never married.

Thomas Oliver b. 1873 at Stanghow.

Anne Oliver b. 1867 , Durham

Margaret Ann (nee Stokeld) b. 1842, Kirby Stephen d. 3 Mar 1922

Married to John Oliver September Qtr 1862 in Durham.
