Thank you
'Memories Day' Lingdale United Reformed Church on Saturday 17th May 2008.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the people of Lingdale and those who travelled to be there. It was another very memorable and successful day.
There were over 125 people through the door on the day.
I have managed to get some more names missing from photographs, already on the site, and over 60 new photographs to add to it. (it may take me a little while to sort these out)
I would like to thank Susan Griffiths, Brian Dove and the Lingdale United Reformed Church for allowing me to use their Church for this event, also helping out on the day as without them it would not have been possible, and it was nice to be part of the unveiling of the remembrance plaque.
A few years ago they had a fund raising drive to buy new chairs and a lot of people bought a chair in memory of someone - those names are all on the plaque and there were photographs of them all within the displays.
Thank you all very much.
All monies raised went to Church funds and the collection amounted to about £87.00.
Thank you once again.
I would also like to thank my mum, Margaret, my sister Wendy and my niece Lucy, Vicky Eastmond from Groundwork and Adam Steele of New Breed Films for giving their time and helping out on the day.
I really appreciated your help. Thank you.
I can be contacted at Lingdale1843@hotmail.co.uk or Tel: 01642 488546 if you require any more information about any of the photographs on the site.
Alison

Sandra would like to know about this photograph.
She knows how they ended up in Lingdale.
The building at the back of them is full of plants and the little girl is holding a record, but what are the others doing with the silver?
I know Henry was an Ironstone miner, and Susan worked at a soldiers hospital, she was a cook, she brought my grandad home (John Shambley) that's how her daughter Emma Jane met and married him. They look well off, not what I expected.
I can't understand the silver or the record. Can anyone help me?

Number 317?
 | 000692
Does anybody know what this picture is about?
There are Union Flags in the roof of the windows and the number 317 appears at the top above window of roof. It looks like a mock up, the mans shoes are funny and they are very dressed up, one girl has a lot of jewellery on.
It almost looks like a wedding picture as they all have flowers. A little odd they have woolly hats and lightweight dresses, could the necklaces be Whitby Jet? The light boots have a stack heel.
Has anybody got any ideas?

It appeared in the Evening Gazette on 30th November 1971, Betty was an employee from Skinningrove Steelworks celebrating her long service award.
Mike is wondering if anyone knew her and if so would like to know more about her and her family.
Please email using the message board or the email link
Thank you
Newspaper cutting reads:
So many employees at the Skinningrove Works qualify this year for long service awards that the presentations of the certificates has had to be spread over two evenings.
Last night at the first of the presentaions at Carlin How and District Workingmen's Club, Mr. Bob King, general manager at the works said that 222 people qualify and have a total service of 8,267 years at the works.
Miss Betty Holliday, pictured above, who lives at Boosbeck and is a typist in the invoice department at the works, was the first woman to receive a long service award. Miss Holliday has been at the works for 32 years.
Mr King said: "It is not possible to put a monetary value on such service, but it should not be ignored and the presentaions are a token appreciation"
The second phase takes place at the club tonight,
Assisting with the presentaions were Mr. G Thomas, works manager, Mr. W. Bradley, chief engineer; Mr A Gardner, personnel manager; and Mr. G. Atley, works accountant.
