Loftus Diamond Wedding

The King's message of Congratulation

MR. AND MRS. JOHN SAYER

Mr. and Mrs John Sayer, one of the oldest couples in Loftus, celebrated their Diamond wedding at their home, "St Hilda's," Zetland Road, on Saturday. They were married at St Mary's Parish Church, Whitby. They have five sons, two daughters and 18 grandchildren.
Mr Sayer started business at Loftus in 1872 and retired about 25 years ago. He is one of the largest private property owners and ratepayers in Loftus. Mr and Mrs Sayer are aged 85 and 82 respectively. The old established business is now being carried on by their son William.
Among the many messages of congratulations recieved by Mr. and Mrs. Sayer were ones from the King and Queen, and the Archbishop of York (Dr. Temple)
