Friendship Group
The Friendship Group was formed in 2001, to provide social activities and extend friendship for those, both men and women, who have lost a partner, maybe after many years together. The group meet every Tuesday in the Normanby Hotel, Normanby Rd, Normanby and is run by Mrs Joyce Wilson. We meet from 7.30pm and new members are most welcome. The cost per meeting is £1.50 to cover costs of hire etc. There is also a raffle and regular entertainment. We encourage people to share their memories but are not a councilling service, but try to bring people together, so as not to suffer, the loneliness often experienced by people who have been bereaved.Every one is welcome to mix in a very friendly atmosphere. We have quizzes and bingo. This venue is licenced so you can enjoy a drink. We have numerous outings during the year and organize a monthly meal at local pubs.
To develop this site I will keep you uptodate with our activities. In the mean time I will be telling a few jokes(clean ones)and I invite you to do the same.I also intend to look back on the last 50 yrs of popular music and cinema and like you, wonder where the artists that gave us that pleasure are now. Are they still performing, retired or deceased.I will call this section "WHATEVER HAPPENED TO" and I would welcome any queries. Watch This Space
3000 VISITS 22nd May 2005. Thanks to all who have visited the site in the past. I hope you found it informative and amusing. Please tell you friends and visit the guest book.Once again thanks.

whatever happened to --Tommy Steele
 | Tommy Steele was born Thomas Hicks in Bermondsey, London on 17th December 1936. After leaving school he joined the Merchant Navy and after four years he began performing at the Two I's coffee bar in London and spotted by Fleet St photographer John Kennedy who introduced him to Decca Records. He came under Larry Parnes who came up with Tommy Steele. His first single 'Rock With The Cavemen' made the UK top twenty charts in 1956. This was followed by his first number one, a cover version of Guy Mitchell's 'Singing the Blues'.In 1957 everyone loved the very gentle 'Butterfingers' taken from the 'Tommy Steele Story' followed by 'Shiralee' and 'Water Water'. He continued to record and make television appearances such as '6.5 Special'. Tommy made several films including 'The Duke Wore Jeans' and 'Tommy The Toreador' from which came his next big hit 'Little White Bull'. In 1967 he starred in 'The Happiest Millionaire' for Walt Disney and also starred in 'Finians Rainbow'. After several TV Specials he was known as an allround family entertainer and took his one man show to the Prince Of Wales Theatre in London and stayed 60 weeks so setting a record. He starred in and directed a stage version of 'Singing in the Rain' and it proved popular with the fans but got mixed reviews from the critics. Tommy was awarded the O.B.E in 1979 for services to stage and Charity. In 1995 he starred in the stage Musical ' OH WHAT A SHOW'.
UPDATE
Tommy has just finished a run at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle in the musical Scrooge (October 2003)He spends a lot of his time studying art and painting and if the script is ok he will be tempted to do it. He still lives in Surrey with his wife Anne.
UPDATE-
I have just had an e-mail from Joy from the Tommy Steele fan club(thanks Joy)informing me that Tommy and Ann now live in Central London in a penthouse suite on the Embankment, which surprises me as I thought Tommy to be close to nature. He intends to perform in a musical in December 2004.At 68 he doesn't seem to of lost any of his appeal, playing to packed houses.

TERRY DENE
 | Terry Dene was born Terence Williams on 20th December 1938 in London's Elephant and Castle area and worked in a record factory packing records and listened to many of the American artists. He felt he could do as good so started playing at the famous 2I's coffee bar.Impresario and producer Jack Good spotted him and signed him for Six Five Special. His first release A White Sports Coat was an instant hit but he felt this did not allow him to sing rock and roll as he wanted, as fans wanted more mellow tunes.
The press gave him a hard time after he was arrested for being drunk and disorderly. This led to a nervous breakdown and when he was turned down for National Service because of his mental state the press slated him more, insinuating it was a ploy to avoid conscription. In the 70's he turned to Gospel singing and this proved successful. In 2003 Terry can still be heard singing in clubs mainly in the London area.
