The above picture of Marske Hall, was take by Vera Robinson MBE.
Marske Hall was built in 1625 as a residence for William Pennyman Esquire. In 1755 it was acquired by the Dundas family, becoming the home of the Marquis of Zetland. When the Dowager Marchioness died, it was no longer required.
With great forethought,a local villager,Susan Sidaway, proposed it as a Leonard Cheshire Home and it has remained for over 36 years, caring for disabled residents.
Charles Dickens visited Marske to see the three unusual stone turrets. There was a mulberry tree in the centre of the lawn from 1932 to 1939 and there was Maypole dancing and the crowning of a May-Queen.

The above information was taken from wwww.photosforthefuture.thehistorychannel.co.uk

Built by Sir William Pennyman in 1625 it was later occupied by the Lowther family and William Penn who was better known for founding the state of Pennsylvania in America.
