The Ringers' Handbook

The Ringers' Handbook - Written by ES & M Powell in 1932, this is still the best book for beginners. The book leads the new ringer from how to stand and hold the rope, through the basic principles of change ringing and on to Grandsire, Plain Bob, Stedman and Kent.

The book assumes no previous knowledge. Technical terms are clearly explained and the text is precise and unambiguous. The 134-page book is a pocket sized paperback with a durable film laminated cover.

Price £5.95 each, 5 copies for £27.00
Extra discounts for book stalls and
ringing courses. Cheques payable to Sotheran

The One Per Learner Book

The One Per Learner’s Book is the first of a set of three pocket books written by Pam Copson. First published in 1982, this has proved to be the best-selling bellringing book of all time.

Illustrated with pen and ink sketches throughout, the book has scores of boxes to tick and activities to do. It is a perfect partner for the Ringers’ Handbook. The sketches illustrate the parts of a bell, the correct way to stand and pull a bell-rope. There are exercises to try out at practice nights; can you balance or stop your bell accurately ten times our of ten? Compact diagrams explain the basics of change-ringing and again, there are lots of exercises to complete.

At less than 80 pence each they are cheap enough to keep a small stock in the tower. As well as handing out One per Learner, use them as promotional material when encouraging visitors to try their hand.

Available only from Ted Copson

The Follow On Book

The Follow On Book is the second of Pam Copson's Sherbourne Teaching Aids. Like the One Per Learner it is illustrated with pen and ink sketches throughout and, as its title implies, it follows on perfectly from the first book.

This is a book to be dipped into, rather than read, page-by-page, from cover to cover. It provides instant explanations of everything from All Saints’ Doubles to Winchendon Place Bob Doubles and includes such bellringing mysteries as firing the bells and splicing the ropes.

Available only from Ted Copson

The Ringer's Exercise Book

The Ringer’s Exercise Book completes the trio of Pam Copson's Sherbourne Teaching Aids. This is an A5 size book and comprises a set of grids, all laid out with the correct numbers of rows and columns to practice writing out change-ringing exercises.

All the grids are cross-referenced to exercises and page numbers in the One Per Learner and Follow On books. This is an invaluable aid for learners as it saves hours spent drawing out the grids for exercises in change-ringing.

Available only from Ted Copson
