BOWLS IS MORE THAN JUST A GAME
During a bowls match on the Abbey green one of the opposition bowlers was about to deliver his wood when he saw a funeral procession going along Monks Road. He stopped, stood upright, took off his cap, and lowered his head. The procession passed and went out of sight and the man put on his cap, picked up his wood and continued to bowl.
I said to him "That was touching. I didn't know you were like that."
He answered, "Well, I guess it was the least I could do - after all, I was married to her for 40 years."
