[above] John receiving a momento for all his years on the NBS committee from the President Ron Fairhurst.
John and his brother David joined the Budgerigar Society way back in 1959 and have remained members since. The are now both Honorary Life Members. They are also Honorary Life Members of the Northern Budgerigar Society.
At the March 2008 AGM John informed the members that due to ill health he woud have to step down from the committee.
John has given nearly all his adult life to the budgerigar fancy and has served in nearly every position both in his local Sunderland BS and the NBS.
In 2004 he was honoured with the highest position in the Budgerigar Society that of President and is only the second person to hold this position from the NBS. He was also a delegate for the NBS for many years.
He was President of the NBS 3 times 1971,1994 and 2004 that is some honour!
He was awarded the NBS Golden Bird for service to the hobby in 1983 and 2004, another wonderful achievement.
John and his brother David are on the Main Judges Panel and have judged all over the UK.
He goes out of his way to help the members always turning up for committee meetings and ordinary meetings, very rarely missing any, no matter what the weather! He even stocks the BS Bucktons seed to help both the BS and us the members.
I cannot personally think of a nicer and more generous man in the fancy. He has never failed to give talks to local societies never failed to judge and is always there to give advise to ayone who asks. He and David always show at all the shows in the NBS area and at the BS World Show. Showing how keen they are even after all these years.
John will be missed in the committee after all these years but I know he will be there if we need him, that is the sort of man he is.
I can say no more than 'Thank You John'
