The Ken Hoole Study Centre opened in 1992. It houses the reference collection left by Ken Hoole, whose strong desire was that it should be available in Darlington for public use. Durham County Council and Darlington Borough Council are delighted to have participated in making this happen.
Ken Hoole (1916-1988) was the author of more than 40 books and numerous magazine articles on the railways of North East England. He was well known in the railway history world and acknowledged as an expert on his subject.
