 | The successor to the first permanent Structure.
This "freeze frame" photo taken video footage taken through the coach window as we passed over the modern bridge which we would know as Teal. A short way down stream is where the first pontoon bridge crossed, that bridge being guarded by four 40mm Bofor guns belonging to 11 Sphinx Battery RA. Footage taken April 2002. |

Korea 1952
 | Going out on a "swan".
This photo shows the preparation of the 4.2" Mortar to go out on a roving shoot, these were quite common and were intended among other things to make the enemy think that we were in greater numbers than we actually were. Since only one gun would be used for this operation at a time firing positions could be anywhere and no protection would be afforded to the gun or crew other than a hastily dug trench into which the crew etc would take cover if needed after firing. Crew members in the photo are David Drinkwater Sgt and Gun Commander,John McAteer (Driver), and Pashley one of the gun numbers (three other members plus the Officer are not in shot). |

Ben Nevis
 | In October Tabby Angier our honorary and very special member decided to raise money on behalf of the Neuro Fibroma-tosis Association by taking part in a sponsored climb to the summit of Ben Nevis and back. The event took place on Saturday the 8th of October in poor weather conditions but the dedication of about 200 climbers did not deter them and after a strenuous climb they reached the top and after a cup of hot tea and a sandwich the return trip was made. Tabby raised over £400.00 for her chosen charity and was supported by the Northeast Scotland Branch financialy.
The photograph show Tabby on the way down. |

Presentations
 | The photo above is of Tabby Angier and Malcolm Smith with their presentation pieces at the annual dinner/dance of the Northeast Scotland Branch held in the Waterside Hotel in Inverness on Saturday the 19th of November 2005.
Tabby was presented with an engraved crystal vase showing a large Stag and Hind on a wonderful highland backdrop. This was a mark of our sincere thanks for her hard work in assisting our Secretary David Drinkwater in the organising of the Stirling event in September and in particular for being instrumental in raising the sum of £1400.00 towards the cost of that event.
Malcolm Smith was presented with an engraved whisky decanter (full)as a mark of our thanks for personally selling over 2000 raffle books for our annual raffle from which the Branch gains its much needed funds to allow it to subsidise events throughout the year to members. The decanter was engraved with a K.O.S.B cap badge on one side and words on congatulation on the other.
Both items are the work of Anne Gilpin from Halstead in Essex whose work is very highly sought after. |

Royal Opening For Scottish Cavalry Museum
 | Monday, July 10, 2006
Source: MoD
Soldiers from The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards rolled out the red carpet for their Colonel-in-Chief, Her Majesty the Queen, when she visited their new £1.5 million museum in Edinburgh recently.
The Queen was treated to an RAF flypast, a Royal Company of Archers guard, a regimental guard and the Pipes and Drums, all of which made a real spectacle.
Major General Charles Ramsay, chairman of the board of trustees of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards museum said the royal opening was the "icing on the cake":
"Throughout her 53 years as Colonel-in-Chief, Her Majesty has always taken a keen interest in our affairs and we feel exceptionally honoured whenever she pays us a visit," he said.
With the The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards having just returned from an operational detachment in Iraq, the museum opens with a state-of-the-art presentation and unique exhibits detailing their colourful history from Blenheim to Basra.
Colonel of the Regiment, Brigadier Mel Jameson, said the new museum would allow the British Army's oldest surviving cavalry regiment to maximise the potential of its past:
"Our history, spanning five centuries, through our antecedent regiments the Royal Scots Greys and the 3rd Carabiniers, is also Scotland's history," he said.
"A museum of this standard is vital to the regiment because it protects and displays our history since 1678. People come from every corner of the world to secure a glimpse into our past."
Among the key exhibits is a never before seen collection of military and personal memorabilia, loaned by world renowned explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes, which depicts not only his own service with The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards' antecedents the Royal Scots Greys but also that of his father before him.
Brian Lang, Chair of the Heritage Lottery Fund Scotland Committe, said:
"Encompassing the history of three ancient regiments, The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards story deserves to be told in a top class museum. The new museum does just that."
Onlookers watched Her Majesty receive the keys of the Castle in the historic Ceremony of the Keys, from the Governor of Edinburgh Castle, General Officer Commanding 2 Division Major General Euan Loudon, before inspecting a regimental quarterguard and a guard from The Royal Company of Archers, comprising entirely of former officers of The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.
