Forthcoming Charity Events

Following last year's highly successful concert which raised several thousand pounds for charity, it had been hoped to repeat the event on Saturday 18th October 2008 at Hambleton Forum. Unfortunately this has turned out to be a busy 'events' weekend and due to lack of ticket sales it has been necessary to cancel the event.

STAMPS WANTED
The Rotary Club has teamed-up with the Friarage Hospital to collect used postage stamps for Project Linus. This project uses the monies raised from used stamps to provide quilts for babies and children in hospital. If you can help by donating any used stamps, please contact the Club through the link on this website which can be found by clicking on 'mail form' under Contents.

Stop press 24.6.08
On Monday 23rd June the Club held it's 11th Annual Charity Golf Day.

Thirty-three teams participated and the Club expects to raise over two thousand pounds which will be split between three charities; The Alistair Bullen Aromatherapy Ward at Northallerton Friarage Hospital, Northdale Horticulture and the Allerton School (for Environmental projects).

The winning team was from Redcar Roofing Services and the winning Rotary Club team was from Bingley Rotary Club.

Thanks must go to Bedale Golf Club and Dave Brown for the venue and organisation, the main sponsors Batchelors of Ripon (main Suzuki agents) and to all the other sponsors, helpers and participants.

Website last updated 6 October 2008

The latest updates include details on the 2008/9 events page of a visit to the Club by the RYLA students and a visit by the Californian GSE team; the cancellation of the charity concert for 18th October; and details of the Club programme for October to December 2008.

At the meeting on Monday 21 February 2005 the first visible value of our new website was realised when we had a visit from Rotarian Dr Singh from the Rotary Club of Tunbridge Wells. He was working for two weeks at Leeming and his wife had found our website on the internet.

Message from 2008/9 President Simon Kirkup

As president of the club for the forthcoming year may I welcome you as a visitor to our website.

Our club is small in number but large in effort and I am proud to lead it for this year. We have an extensive programme of speakers and activities for our members as well as a diverse and enjoyable social programme.

Last year we raised a large amount of money for work in our locality, nationally and internationally and it is my hope that this good work will continue through.

We will be supporting the young people in our area with places for students to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Scheme. Also we will provide a day out at Lightwater Valley for deserving children under the Kids Out Scheme, and possibly sponsor one or two children on the Ocean Trust yacht based at South Shields.

We will again be helping organise and run the Rotary Technology Tournament at Catterick in March 2009, where young people of secondary age are challenged to design, build and test a task given to them on the day. Last year 120 children from all of the schools in the area took part.

We will also be organising a heat for the Rotary Young Chef competition which last year was won by a boy from Helmsley.

We will be working with the schools in our area in whatever way that we can.

We are organising a classical music concert on the 18th October at Hambleton Forum, Northallerton which will raise money for our international projects. Next June we will have our Golf Day at Bedale Golf Club which funds our local and national projects.

Santa will again make his rounds in Northallerton in the run up to Christmas with the help of the club.

We will this October host 6 Group Study Exchange Students from California USA and next year we will have Della Cannings, one of our members, leading a GSE team to Tanzania.

If you are interested in Rotary and what it can do for you and you for it please do not hesitate to contact me or any club member.
