Northallerton Male Voice Choir

Northallerton Male Voice Choir was formed in 1968 with four members plus a conductor/pianist Bob Baratt. The Stockton Male Voice Choir gave a benefit concert on 17th June 1968 in Northallerton Town Hall to promote the idea of a choir based in Northallerton. The conductor was Mr. H. Dodds and pianist Mr. J. Archer accompanied the Choir. That night the Choir sang amongst others Speed Your Journey, Swing Low Sweet Chariot and Cavalry of the Steppes.

About the Choir

Though based in the market town of Northallerton our members are drawn from the surrounding area and the Choir includes singers from all walks of life and of all ages. The last thirty-four years have seen the Choir swell to over sixty members. This increase in the size has allowed the Choir to attempt a greater variety of musical styles and more ambitious choral arrangements. The Choir now boasts a repertoire of over 250 pieces of music ranging from Non Nobis Domine and Gwahoddiad to more contemporary pieces such as Alexander’s Rag-Time Band and Elvis Presley’s Can’t help Falling in Love.

Our Aims

Though the Choir has increased in size the aims of the Choir remain the same - to provide public entertainment and to raise money for charity. The Choir itself is a registered charity, is owned by the members and managed by the Management Committee, in accordance with a written constitution. Election of Officers occurs at the AGM in September. We are self-financing, our income being derived mainly from members’ annual subscriptions, the sale of recordings and some concert fees.
