An Introduction to Tri-Volunteering

There are hundreds of people within the North East who give up their time on a regular basis to make sure that the sport of triathlon can happen and can grow. Without these people helping in our clubs, at our races and serving on our Regional Committee, triathlon just wouldn’t happen.

To help support, train, reward and retain its volunteers, British Triathlon has a National Volunteer Development Officer in place to help oversee and support the volunteers in the North East and the other regions throughout England, Scotland and Wales. Her name is Ruth Grainger and she can be contacted via e-mail, ruthgrainger@britishtriathlon.org or by phone on 01509 226155.

To provide you with relevant information, there is a dedicated section of the National website (www.britishtriathlon.org/volunteer) which has information on how to get involved in volunteering, any relevant news, information on training opportunities, and information on how you can register as a British Triathlon volunteer. In registering as a volunteer, you will receive a bi-monthly newsletter, e-mails on volunteering opportunities and you will also be put into a monthly prize draw where you can win British Triathlon merchandise. You can join online within the tri-volunteering section. There are also pages about Refereeing and Motorcycle Refereeing which explains how you can become qualified and start officiating at races within your region. There are far more races than there are referees so if you were thinking about getting involved, this would be a great way to help out!

If you have any questions or comments, please contact Ruth using the details above. British Triathlon wants to support the people who give so much back to triathlon so if you have any ideas on how we can do this, let us know!
