RACE HQ: The North Terrace Public House has agreed to open and will be available for our use on the day. Storage facilities & toilets there are very limited so please come changed if possible.
Remember; - the Town Moor is a large, open, area often exposed to strong winds. Conditions in late October can be demanding so please dress appropriately for the race!
The Pub be available for snacks & drinks. Two portaloos near to the Start will also be available to supplement the toilet facilities which are available inside the Pub. Please show consideration to fellow runners & DO NOT use toilets for changing.
Baggage and clothing are left at the owner’s risk.

RACE NUMBERS: Can be collected at Registration on the day from 8.30am at the Pub. These must be pinned to the FRONT of your vest. Please write your name, emergency telephone number and any medical information on the back of your number.

NUMBER EXCHANGE: Please note: No exchanges of numbers will be allowed.

PRESENTATIONS: Will be made at the Finish tent as soon as possible. Please be patient until results are available.

JUST A REMINDER:
The race will start promptly at 9.30am and facilities around the course will be removed at 3pm – after that, anyone still running will be doing so without medical & other support.
Please make yourself familiar with course route from the map on our website.
Do not discard cups & empty gel sachets on the course. Carry these to the next available bin or to a marshal point if necessary.

If for any reason you are unable to run on the day please inform us.
Please also inform the lap-counting race official if you are unable to complete the course.

At the end of each lap- at the finish line - just past the 2nd drinks station, please pass through a narrow section on the left so that our officials can take a note of your number to record the number of laps completed. Please assist the officials by making eye contact with them & do not obscure your number.

When you finish please vacate the Finish area as soon as possible to avoid congestion there.
Thank you
GOOD LUCK and enjoy your run.

NORTH EAST MARATHON CLUB

The Club plans to do exactly what it says on the form and organise “no frills, no fuss, low cost, scenic marathons for local runners in our local area.” These will be limited entry events where priority will be given to club members. Membership Form available on www.northeastmarathonclub.co.uk Why not join us to help the club achieve its aims.

NEMC Proposed Programme for 2013:
"Tour of Northumbria" Four separate marathons in four scenic locations :-
April 14th 2013, Druridge Bay Marathon.
July 6th 2013, Hamsterley Forest Marathon.
August 11th 2013, Northumberland Coast Marathon,
Oct 27th 2013, Newcastle Town Moor Marathon,
A special award will be presented to those who complete all four events.

NEWCASTLE TOWN MOOR MARATHON
9.30am SUNDAY 27th OCTOBER 2013

Remember - There are no entries on the day.

RUNNERS INFORMATION

We have very kindly been given permission to run within the historic Town Moor by Newcastle City Council and the Freemen of the City to whom we are very grateful.

GENERAL
Thank you for entering the fifth Newcastle Town Moor Marathon.

THE TOWN MOOR
This is a large area of public parkland less than 1 mile to the North of the City Centre. It is enclosed by The Great North Rd (B1318) to the East, Claremont Rd (South) and Grandstand Rd to the North. Exhibition Park is in its South East corner near the Royal Victoria Infirmary. (“RVI” on road signs).

TERRAIN
The race will be run on a slightly amended course to last year on good footpaths, both within and around the Moor’s perimeter. Most of the paths are tarmac though there are short sections of both grass and gravel.
You should be aware that other recreational users such as joggers, walkers and cyclists may be present on the footpaths on the day. Please respect their usage of the site.

WEATHER
We will keep our fingers crossed for good weather on the day but it cannot be guaranteed. Bear in mind that winter weather conditions in Newcastle in late October are very variable. It is in your own interests to be prepared to dress accordingly. Barring an “Act of God” the race will take place. The organisers reserve the right to assess the suitability of the conditions on race morning.

RACE DAY
CAR PARKING
Newcastle City Council has a number of public car parks in the area. The nearest in Claremont Place is approx 300 metres from the start & costs £2 per day on a Sunday. Parking in Claremont Rd. is free.Make note of the signs.

RACE HEADQUARTERS
These will be in the North Terrace Public House, Claremont Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE2 4AD. Registration on the day will open at 8.30am where numbers and refreshment vouchers may be collected. Definitely no entries on the day. Your race number should be pinned to the front of your vest and clearly visible for the lap counters to see.

CHANGING FACILITIES
There will be basic changing and storage facilities in the Pub itself. Please ensure that you have clearly labelled all baggage. The organisers accept no responsibility for your possessions. Please do not bring valuables to the event.

TOILETS
Unfortunately, there are no public toilets within the Town Moor. We have male and female toilets inside the Pub and our intention is to provide two portaloos near to the Start .

THE RACE
THE START
The Start is located on a main roadway on The Moor,300 meters from the Pub. Please allow adequate time for the 9.30am start.

COURSE DIRECTIONS
Please familiarise yourself with these via the course map on our website. The course will be well signposted with direction arrows and Marshals and Mile markers at appropriate points, (though given its repetitive nature, we would prefer not to leave Marshals standing out in possible inclement conditions for the full 5 laps.)

LAP COUNTING
The course has a UKA Course Accuracy Certificate and has been measured twice by an official Course Measurer, (Garmin owners please note.) It consists of 1 shorter lap of 5.213 miles plus 4 longer laps of 5.252 miles. Mile markers will measure the first lap and serve as a guide for subsequent laps.
We will mark the Half Marathon point as well as miles 10, 15 , 20 and 25.
It is essential that all runners ensure that their race number is clearly visible and recorded at the start of each lap. Please make eye contact with the Lap Recorder as you go through the counting area on the left at the beginning of each lap. We have experienced Officials but they will still need your full cooperation.

DRINK STATIONS
Water & orange juice will be available in plastic cups near Start/Finish area and at approx. the half way point on each lap. Remember to place plastic cups in containers provided.

TIME LIMIT
The time limit for the race is 5 hours 30 minutes. After this time support on the course will be removed. Runners can finish the race at their own risk.

MEDICAL
This will be provided by the St John Ambulance Brigade. Please inform the nearest Marshal if you require medical attention. (You must write details of any existing medical conditions & contact number in permanent ink on the rear of your race number.)

LITTER
To retain the goodwill of the Moor Authorities and safeguard future events there please help to keep the Moor clean by not dropping litter on any part of the route. Drink stations and race marshals will have litter bags available.

THE FINISH
FINISH AREA
Once you have completed the race - please move away from the course and do not block the path of other runners who may still be passing through the Lap Counting Area. All finishers will receive a memento.

AWARDS/PRIZES
As a minimum, we hope to award prizes as follows based on entries received:-
MALE First 3 Male Finishers, First 3 Veteran Males in each 5 year age group category.(M35+)
FEMALE First 3 Female Finishers, First 3 Veteran Females in each 5 year age group category.(F35+)
Note: Prizes will be awarded on the basis of positions achieved ie. If a MV 40 should win the race he would receive the Winner’s Trophy as well as the MV 40 award.
Extra age group awards will be presented to members of The North East Veterans Athletics Association and to affiliated members of The British Masters Athletics Federation.
Prizes will be presented as soon as the organisers can physically do so at the Finish, (please be patient and bear with us.) Any prizes not picked up on the day can be forwarded- provided postal costs are met.

As promised, there will be a special award for everyone who completes all 4 events of "The Tour of Northumbria", in recognition of their achievement and support throughout the year. These will be presented at a special "Tour of Northumbria" as soon as possible after the race.

RACE RESULTS
Will be posted on this website.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO MEETING YOU ALL ON THE DAY OF THE RACE. Have a great run
