Running Marathons

Photo shows NEVAC member Jim Manford completing his second and final lap through Palma Nova heading towards a welcome finish in Magaluf Sports Complex on 10th December 2006. Jim completed his 100th Marathon in Ireland in early 2008 and was presented with a special trophy by The 100 Marathon Club and also by NEVAC for his excellent achievement. Congratulations Jim ! If you apply to enter the 2012 London Marathon and get the dreaded Reject Slip in you may wish to apply for the NEVAC guaranteed places. Contact Secretary George Routledge before 20th December 2010. Along with George Routledge - Jim Manford also competed in the 2007 London Marathon and The 2007 Dublin City Marathon. It was Jims third and Georges first Dublin, and is highly recommended for those who want to combine a good course with good Guinness!! In the 2007 Benidorm Marathon ,NEVAC member Michele Moran produced an excellent performance and showed a clean pair of heels to marathon runners five years her junior - to win a huge trophy for third lady over 40 - in a new p.b. time ! Jim Manford completed his 95th marathon that day and Michele's friend Janette Kilgour of local NE club Claremont RR was a prize winner in the W55 section of the half marathon. Amongst the dozens of fellow Brits in Benidorm , club Secretary George Routledge competed in the half and toasted their success after the race! Michele also took part in Calvia,Majorca in December 2008 finishing 5th Female in the Marathon - just missing her pb due to bad weather. Jim went on to complete his 100th Marathon in early 2008 in Ireland, and his 112th in Majorca in December 2008. Jim and George went on to organise our very own North East Veterans Athletics Club "Newcastle Town Moor Marathon" in 2009 . The 2011 event is to be held on October 30th.
