York Minster November 10
 | New Readers Carol and Janet
Janet Caldwell and Carol Sunley were admitted and licensed as Readers at a special service conducted by the Archbishop of York held in York Minster on Saturday 10 November 2007. There was a total of 14 new Readers on that occasion including Kathryn Dean from Middlesbrough St Chad’s and Janet Hinton from Nunthorpe St Mary’s. Our congratulations and best wishes to them all.
A party of some 50 supporters from Ormesby, most but not all from St Cuthbert’s, undertook the coach journey to support our two friends, both of whom have been active in church for some years.
As usual in the Minster, the event was well organised and stewarded, and ran smoothly to time. The congregation joined in the singing with great gusto – a most memorable and uplifting occasion.
Following the service, we took lunch at St Olave’s church hall, just a few minutes down the hill, made available by the kindness and courtesy of their congregation. Church Warden Brenda Chapman masterminded a splendid three course lunch and provided waitress service with the help of a number of friends. It was an excellent meal that culminated in presentations and a toast to Janet and Carol. Church Warden Roy Ward was kindly allowed to wash up.
